My head unit has phono outputs. What cable can you recommend that is (1) long enough to go to the speakers which will go in the kick panels (2) is decent quality (3) is reasonably priced? I am not an expert, on any level, on car audio. So I don't know what are the best make of cable cost/quality wise. I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. Cheers
Are they for an amp. Should have speaker connections also. Are the phono outputs push on ones RCA type
they come with whatever you like.....if you're not happy to make up your own (ie good with a soldering iron), check the suppliers on ebay....most will make them up to your spec.....Neutrik connectors are good.....
I'm astonished that anything with an amp in has phono sockets for speaker outputs...however, if it's of modest wattage, any reasonably-sized cable will do. 1mm2 or even a bit more. You don't need oxygen-free, low-carbon cable, unless you have a particularly slack wallet. Doorbell wire would do, if it's thick enough.
I looked it up. That's quite reasonably-priced. I thought we were talking "take-my-wallet-I'll-believe-any-old-*****" money... Are you sure? This doesn't sound right.
No...it's good value for what it is.... There's definitely a bit of snake-oil added to the top end home Hi fi stuff though....
Clarion? You could just ask for (male or female) RCAs one end, bare at the other, assuming your speakers have tab terminals.... http://diyaudioprojects.com/Power/DIY-Shielded-RCA-Interconnect-Cables/ or solder RCAs direct to 2.5 mm speaker cable...there's not that nuch interference in a bus, from other electrical sources
Van Damme does indeed make good audio cable. I'd go also for their blue cable. For a more budget option, any two core 2.5mm2 flexible (mains) cable would be fine. Are the phono outs really for driving speakers, or are they for an external amp?
A little Googling later " Specifications Bluetooth compatible: Yes Detachable Faceplate: No DVD Player: Yes Front AUX: Yes Made for iPod: Yes MP3: Yes Preouts: 6 Rear Aux input: Yes Remote Control Included: Yes SD Card Slot: No Stalk adaptor compatible: Yes USB Port: Yes - Rear" There are also no preposterous Wattage boasts Looks to me like there are no amplified outputs.
RCAs are usually low level (ie unamplified) to provide signal to an external amplifer, but were also used as high level connectors on older head units with low output (eg. 10W per channel) The above unit will need an external amp IMO, as most of the juice available will be used for the display screen
That solves that one. Time to get a 500,000W subwoofer and a stack of drum'n'bass CDs, I reckon, innit, blood.
