FOR SALE Nice Cheap 74 pop top Westfalia.

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by leon, Jan 30, 2014.

  1. I brought this over from California in the summer with a view to restoring it and keeping, but unfortunately I need to free up some funds for another project that I've been offered.

It is a 1974 Westfalia Helsinki. For thems that don't know, this conversion offers full width rock and roll double bed, a double roof bed, wardrobe, sink unit, cooker, 3way fridge, front hammock and buddy seat.

This bus is sold as a project, but believe me it is far from the basket cases you see from some project buses out there. The underneath of this bus is absolutely rock solid, however it will need some repair work to the passenger rear corner/wheel arch.
The body panels are solid and straight, only real areas needing attention are the front bottom windscreen edge and the same rear corner/wheel arch. It is currently in grey primer, but I started to remove this to see what paint was like underneath it. comes up ok if you're after a rat look Westy, but not the og colour.
Interior is mostly complete. It needs a table top, cooker top and the spice rack repairing, other than that it's sound.

Gearbox is there, and there is an unknown 1700 engine with the bus that is included. Just bought most of the tinware to go with it, but will need a complete exhaust system. Probably some other bits missing, but hard to tell without putting it back together.

Since, taking the pictures of the van, I have sourced a front bumper and better rear lights which I will include. Will need front screen and rear bumper.

All taxes have been paid and comes with NOVA form to register.
Van is based in Stafford, pm me for telephone details,
    Looking for £SOLD

    Thanks for looking.

  2. Here's a few pictures of the underside. Just highlights how solid this bus really is. Never been welded!
Don't have to worry about hidden repair work caked in underseal and crap.

  7. Hi Lee, Not in a massive rush to sell. If the bank manager lends me some money then I'll be back to my original plan of restoring it.
It's not a big project and I can see a big return on it painted, so would prefer to go down this route.
I have seen something else too, which is kind of why I put it up for sale.

  8. Really nice one.
Would you consider in selling it without the furniture? Just the shell+mechanics+pop top+upper bed. Or even without engine.

  9. Bargainous! Surprised its still available! Worth every penny, and won't have any trouble registering it in this country with it already on the NOVA System!

This also means you as a buyer will know that there are no outstanding duties!

Good luck with the sale! Two years too late for us  We are still welding the replacement panels on! Which have probably cost as much as you want for bus! Oh well - someone will get a bargain to enjoy! :)

  10. Thanks for that, very much appreciated. I agree and would keep it if I didn't need the funds.

  11. Yes definitely. Make me an offer.

  12. I'll let you know.First I have to figure out how much it will cost me to take it here and register it.
What do I have to replace excluding engine and furniture?

  13. It will need a windscreen repair and the rear corner damage sorting. The rest is solid.
Where are you? I can get it transported at a good price if that helps.

  14. He is in Italy bud!

  15. Oh, not too far then.

  16. Think this might be a Westfalia Malaga rather than a Helsinki (which is what I have) as the cooker rather than the sink is by the door. I believe the Malaga is rarer. Hope you find a buyer
