Subaru conversion

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Peakynut, Feb 19, 2014.

  1. I've had the conversion done too, also Fellows. I have the standard 2 litre 16v engine with standard heads, not the stage 2 ones like Baysearcher (but my steering works :p ).

There are pros and cons to any engine choice, but the engine in my bus is as it was in the Subaru, completely standard and therefore well within the design limits of the engine, and although its not perfect, it makes me smile every time I start it up (and it wakes up my neighbours too :D ). It's also more than twice the power of the old engine I had in the bus before, and it sounds like it's not even breaking a sweat when I drive it.

  2. Managed to source this on Ebay for £25K....it's a bit noisey, but thought with a bit of ducting and a T piece, it'd double up as a cooling fan and cooker extractor....

  8. In all honesty, If I had the inclination and funds, I'd be looking into a conversion of some description, but would probably go TDi or blueprinted 1700 on LPG...

  9. I wish Id never got shut of that Mirlees Blackstone engine last year now. That would have been just the job to shoehorn in! Ah well.

  12. I think you'll find it's the correct colour for an 04 plate:

SB 390 D "Every penny I earn pays for my insurance Blue"

  13. Shall we throw in to the equation a Mk2 8V GTI Digifant? Or a 20V Turbo? :) And you can use all diesel T25 bits so its all VW parts.

  19. put the engine in the back and then there will be loads of space in the front, might even get a porta potti in there for good measure!

  20. it's not funny at all. a bay is cool not only because how it looks, but because it's air cooled. end of discussion !
