Almost everything I need, accumulated in 30+ years of messing with cars. Got some nice big imperial spanners from working on old industrial machinery too. I don't do bodywork though, never had the space or time to get into it, so no welding set, compressor etc. The main thing that I would like is a set of lifts, and a garage big / tall enough to fit them in.
One thing i am missing is a good toolbox all my tools a spread around in lot of smaller boxes would love a proper cabinet
My carry on board tool kit comprises socket set with screwdrivers and Allen keys, a pipe wrench, feeler gauges and a camping peg hammer. Some form of tape is always on board. My engine shed is an accumulation of cheap tools over the years. Its always in a state of 'ransacked' which I believe will deter thieves as they'll think all the good stuffs already been nicked. I keep most of the stuff I use frequently strewn across the floor, that way I know where it is
Good man, I do the same. I had miscreants in the workshop twice (3-4 years ago) and nothing taken. I generally only buy cheap tools for the same reason, it would be a disaster if I lost it all. Before anyone says "insurance" if I was as insured as I'd like to be, I'd have to add a fiver an hour to my rate so I settle for road risk insurance to let me test drive which costs a silly amount due to all the vehicles being "classics" and many being LHD.
I keep this in the van (along with a wheelbrace and big spanner for the gas bottle adaptors) and then a big canvas bag full of other stuff in the house. But my mechanical skill stops abruptly at changing the battery, so there's not much need for anything fancier.
I picked up one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DJM-DIREC...d=100011&prg=1005&rk=2&rkt=5&sd=151105151960& May not be "Snap On" but you cant lose it
