  1. It's not going to happen...much like the referendum we were promised on Proportional Representation.
The case for Independence isn't strong enough to command sufficient votes. Scots know that, so let's hope they aren't complacent on polling day...

  2. I think Salmond is playing the game, safe in the knowledge that he and his party will be able to gain more concessions from Westminster...if they actually win Independence, (which I seriously doubt) he will be out on his arse in a matter of years...and The good people of Scotland will demand a return to Unionism.

The same can be said for UKIP...it may seem appealing to some, but their policies (such as they are) are untenable...

For any 'radical' party to wrest power, there has to be a groundswell of public opinion in favour of the new...the British public are largely complacent, where politics are concerned, as can be seen from the poor turn-out at election time. The sense of 'Whoever you vote for, The Government always seem to win' is pervasive in Britain...more so than in France, for example, where the populace are much more inclined to take to the streets.

When we take to the streets, it's to steal Trainers, Widescreen TVs, or to watch from a safe distance, while others pilfer...we might even film it on our smart phones for posterity

A lot of scots who are anti referendum fear it could happen.
They've opened the vote up to kids who are notoriously thick....

    Why do it?

I would imagine they want to be able to make decisions in their own country on such things as sending their own citizens to war over scant evidence rather than not have a vote or get overuled by the right hobourable member for Corby and his mates. I'd also imagine they might want to redress years of getting screwed over in development funding when the governing party has no MP's in that country so literally veto's it and sends it to marginal seats they have a chance of winning. Maybe they want a say in owning their own cultural heritage whilst the English parliament dilute theirs to the point it's embarrassing.

Given that none of you live in a country that has its own history and languages, had its reserves 'shared' amongst the union but are governed by a parliament in another country of course you might not know why it might be important to them.

It's good to have a laugh, I'm just throwing out there some of the motive factors I can see without trying too hard.

  18. I think it's only fair to give them a say on it...after all, they're the ones who will have to work in the mines and hand-weave Pringle Cashmeres for Arab golfers...

The Torys would be in government for ever if Scotland got it's independence, it's only the scottish labour vote that keeps them in the running

  20. Interestingly, Gross Domestic Product per capita is higher in Scotland than virtually all other European countries....
