  1. That would be Carlisle and that's in England just! :D

  2. What would UKIP call themselves if the UK were no more?

  4. Scotland is the biggest source of personnel recruitment for HM Forces apparently, and there are already a number of Scottish based regiments, so I imagine in practice this would be easier than it sounds?
How they would be funded is another matter though lol

Personally I think the whole idea of independence is a joke. The financial implications alone would make it difficult. The fact we own a lot of Scotland anyway would just make a mockery of it.

The other thing they seem to overlook is the a actual population count. 5.29 million. Now my mathematics are not the best and even if i got really creative I can't see how 5.29 million people can generate enough revenue to sustain the needs of a first world country( presuming they are all working?).

The fact is they would be reliant on European/British fiscal help and again this presumes they get into Europe.

I like Scotland, I like the people and the country but I do think the separatists are dreaming a little. We have all read history (watched brave heart) and share their feeling of injustice and the romantic vision of home rule, however, in reality the people that did the Scots down back in the feudal days did us down too. But we have no chance of independence.

Perhaps a republic would be a better option for all of us?

    Viva le revolution.

  6. ^^^^^^ This. The toffs screwed the English as well as screwing the Scots, Welsh and Irish.

^^^^^^^ And This. The UK (with or without Scotland) is held back by the class system and entitlement / power / influence of a small proportion of the population.

  7. @Moons by pay I mean prescriptions are not free and tuition is not free where does the money come from.you can say central government is true but if you receive more than you pay it's free. I have no beef about it after all it is a fact but why spoil the party we are all stronger together.

I was worried I might get a Scottish person sidling up to me in the queue at Lloyds wanting a few quid when I am picking up my viagra cotton buds.

  10. Still have to fund an air force and navy which would be interesting.

  11. Big ship building industry there, but any plane used would need to be capable of lifting off with a cargo hold full of skag and deepfried mars bars and still have to have room for optional military equipment.......would be an engineering achievement I think.... :p

I read an article recently that said just 500 people own the vast majority of Scotland and very few of them are Scottish. I think it was in " The Independent" and it went on to say a lot of rich Arabs own vast chunks of it?

  14. At the end of the day, when global warming has raised the average temperature by 5 degrees and sea levels have risen 10 metres as a consequence, The British Isles will become a marina for the fabulously wealthy...regardless of who owns which bit....I'm stockpiling shares in Jet Ski manufacturing companies and Martini Distilleries:thumbsup:

  15. It doesn't need to. It will pick up EU development money because it will suddenly become a 'poor' nation
    :)

  16. Why would the French want it? If it was that simple we'd have GIVEN it away eons ago!
    :)

  17. That's the first time I've seen those two words side by side.

Go to the corner and face the wall for 15 minutes! Surely you know you have broken a physical law as its impossible for those words to coexist in the same sentence, or even the same page for that matter.

Whatever next, you'll be saying that deep fried mars bars are an urban myth!

It has to be a member before it can apply for EU development funding. I notice they are benefiting from it now according to the road building signs, but can it benefit from it as a non member, which they are likely to be if they leave the union.

  19. Sorry, didn't realise this was a serious thread and you'd actually looked into this properly
