Hi all Currently looking to finish off some of the wiring of my tiptop 73" (lights indicators and dash) only problem I'm not to sure what are the best diagrams to read from as I'm a complete novice (well this being my first attempt so novice might be even pushing it ) i have seen the diagrams on samba but these seem a little more complicated as you go up the years. i have been told there are 2 types of diagrams but can only find the same ones as on samba also is there any where that explains how to read them too sorry if this has been asked but have spent a few days looking but no luck and now starting to get frustrated cheers
I've just put a complete new loom in using the diagrams (today ) this is my 1st bus took some time but once u suss how it works it's simple honest , the colour ones make little Easyer , the letters are labelled what u have ie- front right head light , allso even the number on the relay /switches are labeled !!
if you go onto www.type2.com there is a comprehensive list of wiring diagrams under the Library section - it wont let me link direct, you'll have to find them (under W) in the index part
Bentley manual and type2 diagrams worked for me fella. If you're still struggling I might be able to scan and send some to you
i used a haynes manual and a multi meter to re-wire all the rear lights, have had the dash out aswell so if i can do it you can...
When we traced the wiring from Gusbus (June 73) we rewired him to the 1972 diagram as it matched closest to the wiring we had in front of us
I went with this one, last of the old style diagrams, i just found it easier to read http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bus_1972_wiring.jpg
the samba i studdied them before i went out to the bus then when i got there all made sence any probs put it up on here were all help u through it
This is the lights http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bus_1972_headlights.jpg And indicators http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bus_1972_TurnSignals.jpg
Not much difference I much prefer the old style diagram and 72 is the last of them so i used it on my 74, other people prefer the new style ones, which ever you understand best really
As Keith.H says, not that much has changed over the years. Stick with an early wiring diagram - say '72 - at least it's bus-shaped . Should tell you all you need to know.
Success Cheers guys for the help Now have rear lights and indicators And front lights front lights do seem abit bright tho not sure if they are on constant full beam Just front indicators to go /-)
well done ...keep up the god work on an [electrical] side note .. if you have a redundant diagnostic socket in the engine bay.. the thing that will nearly scalp you when you look in near the battery.. it has wires,in the loom, going up to the front of the bus that can be traced ,and used for other uses,.. maybe useful for an engine conversions...
