hi chris i only want to fill the bits that look empty :)

  6. Ken use a strip of flash band on each panel, all that will do is loose any rattles etc, like BS said I've used foil bubble wrap on most areas, roof, cargo floor etc.

is that like when the old cars had a square in the boot and inner rear wings?

  8. strand glass used to do drums of the chemicals to make expanding foam 2 of them fill the bus leave it a week and carve out the inside!
really quiet, warm and a great high!.

  9. Lead Flash band is carp...believe me, I used to design and install sound proofing for rehearsal and recording studios...
it works to an extent, but if you are going to the trouble of removing panels, units etc....why then install something that won't be as effective?
It's like spending three days prepping your living room before decorating and then painting it with £5 a litre emulsion from Poundland...

  10. pyrosorb is best sound proofing stuff , and has insulating properties too , quite expensive though

  11. Yeah all it does is give you a bit of sound proofing. You only need one piece to have effect. Some people go over board. I did have some on my rear arches and slopey bit between the cargo floor and rear deck. I then decided to paint the inside of the bus and it was a Illegitimate child to get off :) tbh I've not bothered putting anymore down and I haven't noticed any difference in noise.
The thing with insulation (sound and heat) if you buy the purpose made stuff it's mega expensive and I don't think you get the return from it. That's why I used the foil bubble wrap it's quite cheap and serves a purpose. I especially noticed it when I did the roof 2 years ago. I've got a tintop and with the insulation it cooled the heat coming into the van in the summer

This isn't a rehearsal or recording studio though; its a 40 year old rattly campervan.
Each to their own and feel free to call it half a job, but the opposite of that is mahoosive overkill.

  14. you also need a vapour seal when using insulation or you get moisture if your not care full

  15. £160 to do a complete van...in proper stuff

  16. @kenregency you also need to look at how often you use it, what's the point in spending ££££'s on insulation if you only camp in it a few times a year and don't use it in the winter? As BS said overkill

  17. tape all joints....
your risking a lot of condensation....

  18. insulation will also make it into a fridge if its cold too

while it is empty i think i will go with bubble wrap foil from b and q just to help and as for the flashband i cant see the point as i dont think it will do much
shall i double the thickness asi will have a roll and want to use all?:)
