  3. I Wiki'd it - apparently it is Velma and not Thelma. Oh well, maybe my memory isn't what it used to be..... ;)

So wanted to stay until the @vdub brvs got the van to start, but got extra brownie points for being home before lunch.

I'm still married so let's hope I make it to another anniversary next year.

  8. Cheers all for a great weekend, especially @Louey who has the patience of a saint, learnt a lot and got a lot done (by my standards anyway!) blocked off the servo hose and it drove a sweet as a nut and the brakes were just the same anyway, I'm wondering if my servo has ever worked! Thought my fuel guage had stopped working as it hardly moved on the way home, isn't it amazing what a properly tuned motor will do. Absolutely amazed at what the @vdub brvs did, would have liked to have seen it go but OH was all VW'd up by then. Hopefully see you soon.

  9. TE is the best VW event on the calendar by far - thanks to all those experts who give up their time so willingly. Saw the vdub bruvs get going again - magic moment. And my horn's working again now.

  11. Yes your probably right @poptop2 , going to replace the defective non return valve first (and keep my fingers crossed), but I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up changing the servo, at least after this weekend I feel a little bit more confident about my ability of doing it

Tom, I'm glad that you've gone away happier, I was a bit worried after the conclusion it was the Servo. Always worth trying the cheaper and simpler options first

It's the servo Tom ;) I might have mentioned that before...

  14. Still in denial @zed, £15 and a 2 minute job or £70 odd for the cheap Brazilian and for me, probably a week of swearing, banging and throwing spanners!............. Think I'm just putting off the inevitable :(

I'm afraid you are, but you'll need a new non-return valve anyway. :)
A backfire through the inlet might have damaged the servo in the first place - the non-return valve would have stopped this.
