FOR SALE 40.000 mile bay with full history!

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by Van Quish, Aug 18, 2013.

  1. For what its worth, I think the bus is worth every penny. Its the kind of bus that needs to be kept in a museum really and not taken on the annual run to the sun with the kids bikes being lent up the side. What usually happens to these 'choice finds' is that 'surf lifestylers' buy it and treat it the same as a freshly restored RHD van.

How old was your daily runabout when it had 40,000mls on it?
Good luck with the sale though buddy.
Just one think though, Shame it aint a Westy

  3. I think it should go into a museum too. it would be a shame for it to end up like every other. :-(
People seem to be hung up on it being a converted panel? Did Vw ever make a factory camper? Devon probably used a panel to keep costs down! If it was still a panel, it would be a restored or beaten up old work horse with 100o's of miles on it.

My daily runner was three years old and it had 37k on the clock.

My Westy has done 490.000 miles, not with the same engine! lol

Some people on here say they know of better! Thats fantastic, its great to know they are about. :) Are they forsale?

And for the person who said I asked a plonker to price it, that was a bit harsh! :-(

I have seen some of the build threads on here, fair play to you! :)

Basically, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not what someone wants for it. I'd like £5k for my bike but that doesn't mean that's what it's worth.
Good luck with the sale but again imho this don't look like a museum piece!

  6. What are they worth and what would the owners ask for them? Are they for sale? And that's only two bays out of 000's built or for sale!
Have they only done 40k with full history?
    Are they two owner bays?
And do the have a booklet recording mileage and how much fuel was put in?
Do they have the old tax discs and mot certificates?
    Never used in the winter?
Do they have 98% orignal paint?
I could make it look a1, that's not the point, with this bus there are no horrors to find! You see what you get. The pictures you see are half way through the clean up as it was stood outside for thirteen years!! I want people to see it for what it is and not hide all the imperfections!
I have seen 10k late bays on eBay that people have bought!! They look nice until closer inspection!
As I said 20k or nearest offer! ;-)

And some one said about the road tax, if its such a big problem, I'll pay for the next three year! ;-)

  7. Good luck to yer if you can get it. The bloke that will more than likley buy it will be called Rupert and have have it photographed for a shiney magazine article, claiming it was his fathers/grandads.
Just to say I can vouch for the guy who's selling it, staraight as a die. Good luck again.

In today's market where there really is some utter rubbish out there I think the argument about converted panel vans is a dead end argument and totally no relevant. Devon and the like bought, converted and sold them as campers.

Although I actually agree to a point, I still wouldn't want one.
I reckon a lot of people feel the same, whether its a valid reason or not.
Where did it come from? If it sat in a hedge for 13 years i'm guessing you paid the owner not a lot for it?
Anyway, a I said, good luck with the sale.

For something so original, low mileage, and needing the smallest amount of work i.e bumpers painted, I think it's well worth what's being asked. If it got sold for £10k, a dealer would slap it up for £20.

Just look at what people spend over the years keeping their buses alive or restoring them. Better still, lets ask @Chrisradioman how much he's spent on his bus.

When I get round to getting mine painted it will have cost me £16000 inc purchase and 5 years of running with mechanical problems. It's a 130000 mile bus. And it's been welded in the battery tray. £20k for such a gem is a steal of anyone's money. And while talking about steal, how many of you aggressors on this thread would look to be getting the absolute maximum for your bus because you can?? All of us.

I had to pay hard for it! Many people have asked to buy it over the years but he would never sell it. I want a t5 so one of my bays has to go! :-( I have decided to keep the westy, and sell this one or the 69. :)
I have just had a full brake overhaul costing £1000 on the green one. :)

I wouldn't say it was hard sell. People have seen a few photos and made comments what they think its worth. I don't have to sell it, it will sell itself. ;-)

  18. I didnt say you asked a plonker. I said the guy was "pulling your plonker".

Not wanting to seem like im argueing..

But surely you must be able to see the types of vans that are selling for 20k. Realistically in the current financial state of the uk.. It wont reach that pricetag. The people who can afford to blow 20k on a camper.. Will want something older and already in mint condition.

Saying that there will be someone rich out there who doest know about alot about campers and could probably be influenced to buy it by a gift ofthe gab salesman.. But you wont find this type of person on a bay forum.

I reckon if you sat it in a garage for another 5-10 years ill get there.

Dont hate me, just my input
