i am going to built my tin top bay to a westfalia pop top bay, is there any who seen a tread on this or do it them self?
Zed has just put a pop-top onto a tin-top for someone, not a Westie though. Someone on here did one I'm sure
To the OP - That looks like a front hinging roof? I expect you know that the hole in the roof for these is quite small, just where the sliding door is. If you don't have the bed, there's someone on Earlybay who makes an exact copy of the original at a reasonable price. Have you got the stays to hold it up? hinges - inside the van there would have been backing plates with captive nuts extending to and riveted to the inner gutter.
yes i know i have the bed and i have the stays to hold it up, an they working fine.... "hinges - inside the van there would have been backing plates with captive nuts extending to and riveted to the inner gutter". i dont understan this, sorry i am from Norway ;-)
Dont do it. i got a tin top as it was the only one i could get into my garage and i love it. another roof gets the chop. boo hoo
mine is "little" lower than orginal so no problem in my garage. Holmsen@ no manuals just from my mind.
I don't have a picture. To spread the load it would have had sheets of steel inside the tin roof with built in nuts. But as Holmsen nearly suggests, I expect it would be fine pop-riveted to the roof.
Do it, Do it! Being able to stand up inside is a must! Specially when "the weather out side is frightful". LOL
personally, i love my tintop and its damn well staying that way!!!!! thinking about welding up the little glass sunroof so it can look lovely and smooth all the way along.... poptops just aint my cup of gravy, and never have been..
Mine had a skylight vent in but is all smooth and shiny now. The big thing is getting it in the garage for me, I have about an inch of clearance with the garage door. And keeping her in the garage I know will add years to her. I can see the advantage of being able to stand up inside her. But if I keep her long enough, I'll be shrunken and crooked and will fit just fine anyway.
