So I just added another late bay to my collection. Ice cream kombis are a South African institution but increasingly a dying breed, so I was very pleased to find this one in good, original condition, just needing a new engine. I will be putting it to work ...
Hi Fig, my son-in-law (to be) and daughter are coming back (he's a Joburg boy) to Pretoria for 6-9 months in October, he wants to buy a bus and bring it to the UK when he moves here permanently in 2014. Any tips would be very welcome.
Howzit Fig! where are you from in South Africa? Im a Durbanite! That jurgen Looks familiar! did you buy it off Didier?
Hey @fig , the boy flies out to Jo'burg Monday for 9 months, PM me some details so he can talk to you about shipping a couple of buses back when he returns to UK.
Thanks for the positive comments all. We had a summer party this weekend and I fired up the ice cream van for the first time and served everybody free cones. The set-up worked pretty well, even in the 33deg heat.
Yes, I did. You can see in the pics on the right rear that the trim is loose. Sangged it on a rock step and pulled half the rear panel off, exposing lots of rotten frame! We pushed the rear panel back in front of the bumper and continued. I've since had the frame rot repaired by a custom caravan builder. The Autovilla went into the bodyshop for some rust repair and paint this week, while the engine is being built to 2056cc (96mm Keith Black pistons) with 2.1 WBX fuel injection.
