Newport was historically part of Monmouthshire, which flitted between English and Welsh 'ownership'. Then became part of the Ceremonial county of Gwent Newport was then granted city status and is now defined as the County Borough of Newport, a large area that has resulted in places like snooty Abergavenny getting a Newport postcode. They must be gutted.........
We used to have a UB postcode. Middlesex. Middlesex didn’t exist even when I was a kid (I’m not that old)
I think where I live now was part of Warwickshire before the West Midlands county was formed. I think it became the West Midlands in 1974
Yep, they raised a petition for the Welsh Assembly because there isnt a Welsh word for Waitrose.........
I forgot they've got a Waitrose. Crickhowell must chuckle to themselves everytime they see Abergavenny being called posh.
My father was born in 1911 in Walton , Lancashire . Walton is now a suburb of Liverpool - L4 I lived in Maghull, Lancashire growing up - it is now Maghull , Sefton, Merseyside . Note that Sefton was actually a tiny village near Maghull, consisting of a Church , a pub and a dozen houses . The West Lancashire border now starts just 1 mile north of Maghull.
Born in Salford, Lancashire before Greater Manchester became a Metropolitan County in 1974. Now living in Flintshire, formerly Clwyd until it was carved up in 1996 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My home town of Rotherham used to be in the West Riding of Yorkshire…must have slipped down a bit as it’s now in South Yorkshire.
I was born in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Now it's Brierley Hill, West Midlands. The Bathams still tastes just as good, though.
Saw a recent pic of her in the paper, being hauled away by the law. She's getting right gut on her . Beer and pies? She'll be playing darts next.
