I’ve just worked out that in 9 months and 8.5k miles I’ve worn the tyres on my berlingo down to about 2- 3 mm I drive a mix of single lane country roads, duel carriageway and town roads To me it seems tyres don’t last like they used to but I’m wondering if I’m just not remembering properly and the wear rate is about right?
I had to have a new tyre last friday, the Michelin fitted was the last of the original tyres on the car. Just passed 53k miles but the sidewall had cracked!
My car had an advisory on its MOT this morning for both rear tyres worn close to legal limit. There’s a good 5mm left on each and even all the little rubber nodules are still there around the side walls. Knobbers.
My last car had Bridgestone tyres, and it seemed that on every yearly service, at least one of them was highlighted as being low on tread. When I changed from that car, it had 35,000 miles on the clock, and all tyres had been changed. Thank god I’m now back to Michelin.
Changed a rear Goodyear tyre on the Corsa last year ….. date code showed that it was original to the car…. 2008 and 90k miles.
what brand are they @paradox ? i made the mistake of putting some cheapo ditch-finders on the daily a couple of yrs ago. grip wasn't that bad tbh but omg they wore out fast.. really fast. and not consistent across tyre tyre either weirdly. put some mid-range uniroyals on and it was way better for not much more money. cheap tyres= false economy
I It had cheap ditch finders on it when I bought it and they didn’t last six months Since then I’ve had top quality tyres and I don’t get a year out of them
Chinesium! I’ve just put cheapos on the front of the Note. Doing 50 miles a day commute atm so I’m hoping they’ll last the year. Should have gone for my usual firestones but chose not to. I don’t have much faith in cheap tyres, but we’ll see!
Yes between £200 and 600 depending on make and style. They’re usually 22.5” and a super single for the trailer that has six could be £400 each fitted, then there’s usually 8 more on the unit!
I`m not buying 90k out of a tyre and 16 years .... probably the spare ! average tyre would last 20k maybe a bit more for the rears and if you rotate them
I get through front tyres about every 8-10k miles on the front of the bus, more like 10-15k on the rear. Lowered rear camber and leaning hard on the front tyres on cornering .. The Peugeots use essentially the same size tyres, weigh about 3/4 as much and the tyres last more like 20k miles.
Does your tractor do that trick where it lifts one rear axle off the ground (presumably to save on tyre wear)?
Yes it has a midlift axle that’s the middle axle alternatively there’s units with tag axles which is the a rear axle lift!
Midlifts are crud in the wet loaded as they take the weight off the rear drive wheel and you slip when pulling away up a bank!
