Looking to do some rewiring on the van and looking for recommendations for electrical connectors (type and brand).
Vehicle Wiring Products do a good range of electrical connectors, wiring etc and quick to despatch / deliver. Vehicle Wiring Products Ltd Suppliers of Auto Electrical Parts
Yep. VWP or 12V Planet for brass crimps, insulators and cable. Worth getting a decent crimper if you're doing a lot of them. The Durite one is fine.
Thanks a lot @snotty , I used Beckys decent Crimpers on my electrics and I think I’ve broken them, now she can’t do her Barnet
Have you tried Waitrose? They have a wide selection of pasta. For 4mm2 and 6mm2 battery cable, you'll need tube crimps (which the above will sell you). A cheap Chinese hydraulic crimper off eBay will do the trick.
Not really. Just standard insulators for female and male crimps. The oblong ones for females are good (and were actually used by VW), as you can push them on after you've done the crimp.
Is it better to buy sets with multiple crimps or pots of the ones that you need? (I'm guessing the later, but worth asking).
I get them in bags of say 20. I'll take pic of useful stuff in a Bay a bit later, so you know what to look for.
Here y'go - a connector assortment. From left 6.3mm females (get the ones with the locking tangs on, can always squash them down if not needed), 6.3mm males, ring terminals, assorted female shrouds (oblong push-on-the-end on the right), multiway automotive connector (as used by VW), less clunky mini-Faston on right (much neater). Bottom: tube crimps for battery cables (need cheap hydraulic crimper and a bit of heatshrink), Durite crimper for the 6.3mm jobs. Male shrouds are a bit wider, but not often used. Suitable cable available from the above (look on your wiring diagram for sizes). Thinwall will do (but don't tell @DubCat ). Handy sizes 0.5mm2, 1mm2, 2.5mm2 in various colours (most original van colours available). Battery stuff 4mm2 or 6mm2 (preferred), only really red or brown needed. Use tube crimps on the 4 & 6mm2 stuff.
