Hi Guys I'm after some rear mudflaps I've installed rubbish repro which are pants so if anyone has any og ones in good condition I'd be interested or at least better repro ones then I have
Do you have original fronts? I ask coz Chips fronts have a raised profile around the edge. For the rear I fitted Landrover Discovery 1 rear flaps to lhu1281's brackets. The profiles match quite well. The flaps look better in the flesh as I've straightened them up from the original wonky fitting and sprayed the mounting brackets black to mask further wonk. Been on since 2015 and cost less than 20 quid. Just a thought if you struggle to get an OG set
Mmm. @lhu1281 , are yours ss copies of the original design.? ( I always thought so, but best to check) On this page @surreyvan there are some other pics of the flaps and brackets. https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/chip.33075/page-19
I've just bought a set of 4 of these: They're as close as I could find to the OE style flaps, especially now VW has scared off all the usual suppliers from using the logo. The supplier is based in Turkey but easy to order from. Must be under the radar of VW at present! They're not that cheap, a set of 4 with postage cost me Euro 110, so about £95. They also come with useless Beetle brackets, so you'll need to get the proper bus ones, but they're readily available. Website: https://www.vwclassicclub.com/en/vw-classic-club-pacalik-siyah-takim-1200 The pictures on the site are slightly different, what you get is as shown above, not bad quality at all, the VW isn't quite right, but it's close enough for me.
They look very similar / the same as the one's I have, although I can't remember where they came from. You have to adapt them slightly for the front as the originals have a slightly shaped top. I just cut a slit in the appropriate place and job's a good 'un. (Mine didn't come with brackets, so were cheaper - I've got the ones that @lhu1281 sells and they are a perfect fit) ( @surreyvan I realise you were only wanting rear ones anyway, but as Favguy posted about himself getting a set of four...)
Sarah...our flap mounting styles are different! Who's are correct...if that's a thing In fact it doesn't really matter does it, but it may sense to me for the steel mount to trap the flap behind the jacking point. They arent coming off anyway to change around haha Edit, thinking about it, yours are more of an extension of the arch so I guess the chassis gets a bit more shielding from road muck?
Ours are in the same location as Sarah's but we use Butty's Bits brackets..I think, from what Ive read on thesamba your position looks close to what VW suggest.
Haha. Dunno. I took them off a scrapper in Albuquerque and they were fitted like that. The rubber was curved backwards like that. I assumed dealer fit. Doesn't matter really. The T3 ones sit behind the jacking points as well but they can't really go anywhere else coz of the design
Yours are probably more where they should be, Neil.... and easier to fit as you wouldn't have to remove the wheel! But from memory, mine have to go in front of the jacking point because of..... belly pans. I fitted them at techenders a couple of years back, and I think I did have a look at both yours (well, Chips!) and also Matt's to see what my options were... but those pesky side belly pans made it a one choice answer.
This picture found on the samba shows the fitment and it’s how I fitted mine . Both my front and rear flaps are genuine rears (correct part numbers ) I do have a pair of genuine front flaps and genuine brackets if anyone want to get their cheque book out but the Fronts never had the VW logo . Again correct part numbers . All mine on the van look ok from a distance but are 50 years old Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That concurs with what I thought but didn't know for sure. I'm pretty sure our fronts are genuine and we know the rears are yours with Landy flaps. Nerdscope I'm afraid but some of the detail interests me
Don't want to upset you but I've got the same from the same guy the white turns a yellowy brown after a couple of months
Well further along the road a friend gave me a identical white pair as Baduras so I'm going with them I think , they are extremely good quality and look a bit different
