That snake looks like it’s been under a lot of tension, not nicey tighty like the picture above is it. I had a snake belt too but no idea where it came from. Wising I had the same waist line as way back then.;)

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, can you still get em ? I could do with the elastication :)

A Jewish cobbler made a pair of shoes for the king and they were given the king’s approval so he put a sign in his shop window which said “ cobblers to the king” the baker opposite put a sign in his shop which said “ And ***** to the Rabbi”

We had a PE teacher that would stand at the end of the showers to make sure you washed properly.

Righto, just been off to have a look and all the new ones have widened snakes but I bought one anyway. Got a nice green giant sized one that could possibly double as a tow rope. Maybe that’s what’s with the extra side snakey bit.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, who’d have thought :)

  13. Saving up pocket money for a set of eveready bike lights so I could go to the next village along to hang out with my mates on dark nights. Only to be severely disappointed to find out that they were only to make you seen on the road rather than actually give any amount of light that enables you to see where you are going.

Yes, we called Blakeys, Segs though. I remember a strip in Viz called Segs Maniac about this kid who had tons of Blakeys in his shoes

If you forgot your PE kit, there was a horrible generic kit made from forgotten items for you to use. I don’t think that anyone was ever responsible for its laundering.

Worse was ‘changing practice’ - miscreant boys were made to come back after school and strip, put on their gym kit, strip and back into their uniforms, repeatedly. While the gym teacher watched. No one thought it an odd punishment, or complained to the Head (or the Police) but it was the 1970’s. If I could remember his name, I’d name and shame him, but he’s probably dead by now, the pervy old bar steward.

Tbh I’m not sure if the quality has declined or my tummy making the belt work harder! It starts off tight but after half an hour has loosened itself! :)

  18. I remember we made what we called a bolt bomb
Two bolts with one nut joining them
Into the nut went the red match stuff
    From swan vestas
    Hand tightened together
And thrown onto the ground With a bit of force ,
This would make a spectacular bang :)

When I look back to my 1960s 0-10 year old days, so much of the stuff mentioned above hangs on from WW2, guns, exploding stuff, playground games, war type comics, airfix kits, war films. Quite strange that 20 years after the war that was still so prevalent.

  20. I was born in 1978, so my youth was in the 80's, and to be fair - it was still the same for me, airfix kits, action man, commando comics; and also a few snake belts, dark blue and red banding was my favourite! It seems childhood for people my age didnt change that much from 10-20 years previously. We did have some early computers to keep us entertained (BBC/Spectrum/Commodore etc), but other than that it was the usual knocking on mates, building dens, tearing it up on your bike etc
