I made a brake from a brick tied to a piece of string. First time I chucked the brick it smashed

At the top of our road was a pub which had the forerunner of an off- licence. It was a small room within the pub where ( obviously ) you could buy things to drink off licensed premises. No such thing then as Booze busters etc. Me and mates would take all manner of bottles , mainly Manns and Double Diamond. The bottles would be taken from the small “ offie” to an outside yard where we would “ recycle” them. Great fun and needed about 6 different lads and , ideally at overlapping shifts to avoid recognition . No pocket money then…….didn’t need it !

Playing out all day. Going off for bike rides to different villages without worrying about being totalled by a driver on the country roads.

Building camps in the countryside, wandering about with a sheath knife in my belt.

    Building go-kart from a pram.

Fixing a popped football with a knife heated up on the hob to melt the plastic.

Buying crisps from the off sales hatch of the pub.

Not being in contact with my school friends until the next day after going in for tea. (Lock on the telephone and chatting to a friend you would see the next day at school didn’t qualify for mum allowing me the key)

Telling the shop keeper my mum had sent me for the cigarettes.

Didn’t Kensitas have stamps ? Seem to remember an aunt filling her house with gifts..weird they were all the same nicotine colour, very chic.
    Probably impregnated with tobacco;)

  11. Surprisingly, only made 73. She had spent a number of years bringing up a family while being bombed by the Germans, so no surprise.

  13. I've never had the probs you describe, as I've got an original Bosch alt. But...other folk on here have had the same problem I believe: the pulley grinding the face off the alternator. Worth having a search on here.

Until Ms Cat mentioned the knife thing I'd forgot about being able to walk around with an air rifle.

Until you said that I’d also forgotten a lad I knew had an air rifle and used to sometimes carry it about!!
