I remember watching the first episode of the Young Ones, we were supposed to be baby sitting for the next door neighbour but Sally was in hospital having her appendix out so I was on my own.

  2. First episodes sometimes promise more than they can give ,for instance Sharp ,lots of dare doing and gritted teeth.2nd episode lots of dare doing and gritted teeth ,3rd episode , repeat.

Apologies if someone has already posted this. I remember the first episode of Emmerdale for some odd reason, it was on one afternoon back in the 70’s so I must have been having a sickie, but I remember it, Annie Sugden and her family were going to a funeral. I don’t know why I remember it but I do sadly!

My recollection is it been on after News at Ten.
My girlfriend’s parents both went to bed after the news and we had “use” of the settee then …. I amazed that I remember any of the program.

Reasonably well off bloke living in Surbiton offends his boss and packs in his job so him and his lovely wife can live self sufficiently. Their best friends who are also their neighbours are aghast at first but come to accept their new way of life. Mirth ensues.

I think if you look back at it now it seems a bit nicey nicey and safe. It was very popular in our house, but possibly because of Felicity Kendall. I er, can’t think why

War time proprietor of French cafe is caught between reluctantly working for the resistance and his numerous Nazi customers not finding out he is working for the resistance by hiding two nice but dim British airmen on his premises. Also has to keep his fairly obvious, secret trysts with various waitresses, from his wife. Mirth ensues. Genuinely, it ensues!

Godawful whimsical “comedy” about a Scouse family who cook up various schemes to make money to bring home to mum, who puts the cash in a crockery chicken. The main son seems to spend most weeks at the DHSS basically scrounging cash he doesn’t deserve. Mirth doesn’t ensue
