Currently have a Type 1 AB converted to 1600cc has twin pipes an a beast of an air filter (T2 1973). What's best air filter and twin or single exhaust? Just about to strip and refurb carb so maybe change filter an pipes?
You also have a flap on it you can connect up to help get some warm air into the carburettor when cold.
Going into T2 Bus, this has come out of a beetle so anything else I'll need to alter/change? Fitting new clutch plate while engine out as have had transmission refurbished, carb refurbished, new coil, leads, dizzy & plugs. Cheers
I think you said it had a type-4 engine originally? If so, unless it' was a very late year FI bus it won't have a filter stand welded to the bodywork.
The usual exhaust would either be a stock style or a single or twin " quiet pack " .. long ago the " Monza " twin tip style was the only exhaust measured as worse than the stock exhaust. But in all cases the differences are small. I like my JK stainless steel single quiet pack setup, (lasted over 10 years until the silencer box cracked) others find the note with all the exhaust pipes the same length to monotonous compared with the slighly uneven beat of the stock exhaust.. Hopefully will have a video of a drive down the Fosse way with the window wound down coming up on youtube.. I got fed up with buying EMPI mild steel silences every 10000 miles..
The Beetle air filter is pretty well OK functionally as a filter and hot air feed apart from the fact that it's going to be jammed against the top of the engine bay, as the Beetle has more height in the middle.
This one pictured is older than the usual bus one.. doesn't have the vacuum operated air flap that provides hot air for idle, and which provides cold air for wide open throttle. The wax capsule works to provide hot air, but it can not automatically drop the flap when you want cold air going in for efficient providing power. Its miles better than nothing , but not the best.
