If it's the Dells I think they are, the vendor stopped posting a few months later and hasn't been on here for 6 months. Lots of entirely reasonable reasons for that, of course.

  2. We on here shouldn’t really be ripped off by anyone on The forum,
at the very least the person should give a refund not funny,

    That's the internet for ya!
There's a good few of us who post regularly and we kind of 'know' each other even if we haven't actually met up in person.... but there's so many more who aren't part of that.
I made a judgement to buy something from someone I'd never met - obviously I hope we're all honest and part of a big fluffy TLB family... but there's no guarantees.
You're right, no-one should get ripped off - and maybe if I hadn't sat on them for 9 months and had tried to fit them straight away... but I didn't.
Also, to be fair to the guy who sold them to me, he could well have bought them in good faith himself, stuck them on his van, discovered it ran horrendously, twiddled and fiddled with the idle and mixture and the basic stuff, but just couldn't get anything to work. If he didn't strip them down, maybe he didn't know what they were like inside, and just opted to get rid and recoup some of his money.

Went camping in it! First run out this year, the door isn’t done properly but going out in it makes me feel 259BEB57-1250-4E7B-BC09-0626DDD61B48.jpeg better!

Just to avoid any doubts that anyone who knows my name may have, this wasn’t me despite being a helpful Geoff. :)

This Geoff worked in the stores at Philips in Cambridge. Getting anything out of his stores was like getting blood from a stone hence the name. :)

Soldered up the vacuum feed to the power valve on my progressive and increased the secondary main jet from 137 to 150 as that was annoyingly the next size up in my box of jets.. as it seems I had some weirdness related to my piston melting a few months back .

Driving up hills, normally head temperatures would rise from say 110C to 116C at the sensor with the air fuel ratio dropping to 12.5 :1 and then lean out over the top of the hill as I let off on the throttle and the head temperatures would drop back ..

Then over the top of one hill, and going down hill the mixture went very lean and head temperatures started to climb on the downhill until I backed off to 45 mph, on the primary carburettor bore.
No increase in oil temperature- it was about 90C at the time, the offboard cooler doing its job.

I think the "power valve" on this progressive is sticky, and I have been relying on it's normal operation to richen up the mixture .. I noticed I had to vary the pressure on the throttle pedal a few times to get it to richen the mixture before this happened.

So instead of a possibly dodgy valve, I am just going to try a bigger jet on the secondary barrel.

This probably speeds up the progress towards a fuel injection system..

Took it for a drive and checked that at least with the choke on, the mixture is in the right ballpark. Will have to make up an excuse to drive it about 5 miles to get the choke to warm up, and see what motorway driving looks like.

Ordered a bag of different main jets between 140 and 147 and a couple of air corrector jets to play around with the mixture now I have deleted the power valve - plenty of smaller jets in the box of bits, but nothing between 137 and 150 ..

So today I shall mostly be cleaning 3 months worth of mechanic dirt, mould, and general rubbish out of him :)

( I shall also have to move Henry out of his carport!)

It's been so blinkin' long since I drove him - and in between i've got used to a Morris Traveller....
Once he's clean inside and all is right in that department, I'll go for a decent spin.
We certainly didn't get the oil temperature gauge to move much on the way home, so possibly the velocity ring and the bigger oil cooler might be doing their thang (or it might just still be March and not very warm!)

It'll be hard to tell what had what effect on your temps. "They" say the T4 cooler is good for 5-7 degs. I don't know about the velocity ring, probably minimal too (though it all helps). I suspect the correct tune has more effect. But...
What we want to know is did you put your foot down. :)

  15. Don't know how you can resist!

Would've thought the temp gauge would heave itself off the endstop, but who knows...

    I did 60, does that count? ;)

I think it eventually got up to about 80c, but it wasn't more than about 6 miles so not really a good test. I think it would've heated up quicker previously, but I may be hopefully imagining!

  17. You can do 80, foot to the floor  Engine gets a bit hot, tho' :)
