The first car that I can remember my dad owning, largely held together with bean cans and rivets…

What survived…the cars or the drivers!

You were lucky, my dads car was made out of bean cans and rivets.

My brother in law had a Sunbeam Vogue version, slightly different to the Singer Vogue.

  6. Dad had one too in a nice metallic green. It felt like the first decent car he'd owned which tells you how rubbish some of his earlier purchases were:eek:

  7. My grandfather had a dull green Hillman Hunter. I remember the radio aerial was attached to the front window with a clip that meant that you could only really listen to it when stationary as the wind noise from the slightly open window drowned out the cricket (that's all that was allowed on the radio, none of this morally corruptive music). The coax cable draped from the window to the back of the radio also seemed to interfere with the steering wheel.

When I was an apprentice, one of the other lads had a Hillman Hunter and would give me a lift to work.
On the way home (up hill) it was quicker to walk. :)

  13. I think it said Super Snipe, it was in someone’s front garden in a very quiet village so I didn’t want to go closer in case they thought that I was up to no good!

These are getting hard! I went off at a tangent on this one, but I'm pretty sure that it is one of a series of design exercises done by Ghia in the late 50s for Renault, called the Renault 900. The proposed engine, in the back, was a 1.7 litre V8 based on two of the 845cc 4CV pushrod fours.
