Possibly, if I could get the gear from a scrapper, which will become easier as electric cars become more common. A ten year old Corsa is worth nowt.
If there was no other choice, then probably. I do believe though that EV is a stop-gap to something else - most likely hydrogen power. Batteries, lithium, vast amounts of electricity requiring generation... it's not actually that environmentally sound, is it? Not to mention the disposal of the batteries when they get too old to hold a charge. And lets face it, the weight of enough batteries to push our brick shaped vans up a hill would mean the days of 55mph would seem like a wonderful dream!
There are moves afoot , not at government level but the idea might spread. Should not electrify, should not use as a daily driver.. https://uk.motor1.com/news/377299/classic-ev-conversions-not-classic/
Perhaps the fuel blend will change, my Brazzer runs on Bio-ethanol as in Brazil it's cheaper than petrol and diesel - I've got two separate tanks and fillers, one small tank specifically for unleaded petrol to start the van, it then reverts to take fuel from the main tank, currently unleaded but could be any ratio of petrol or bio-ethanol mix, the ECU makes any necessary ignition adjustments.
Obviously it’s not as clean a technology as it’s painted. There’s still lots of digging ruddy great holes in the earth to rip out finite supplies of whatever is needed, with all the ecological and human harm that can do and is doing. But that doesn’t just apply to EVs. It’s the battery in your watch, your torch, your radio. So yes, I’m fully on board
If I had to convert my “classics” to electric due to lack of fuel, or the tax was to high. I wouldn’t convert anything I would just sell up. For me half the fun of classics bikes/cars is the tinkering and the fun and character of an engine.. it’s all lost with an electric motor. I have a phev company car... when it’s running on pure electric it is quick but aside from that.... bloody hell It’s boring (I say sell up... it will all Be worthless I guess... just ornaments)
Another option would be to convert the van in to a caravan then tow it with what ever electric vehicle you have as your daily
Its going to be hard to find EV tow vehicles that can tow even quite small caravans. And when they do their range will be even worse.
Or there will be a surge in campers converted into sheds and cabins, similar to when British Rail phased out their wooden freight wagons. They reappeared on farms and horse paddocks everywhere.
Why bother converting yours when you can buy an already converted one with a 600BHP Power power plant for only £60,000. I’m sure it will corner like it’s on rails Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It would be utter madness to convert to battery electric, or even to buy a new battery electric car right now. 5 years and they'll all be obsolete. Hydrogen electric however, couple of years and it will be viable
