EXTERIOR Finished in Yellow and White – as you can see the bodywork is in very good condition. Its 41 years old so there are a couple of small rust spots and corrosion of rear mudflap holders, but the underside is structurally sound. Several panels have been replaced over the years including windscreen surround, both front wheel arches, rear panel, boot surround, rear right arch and petrol cap panel. In 2019 some welding was done to MOT standard to the N/S outrigger and finished beautifully – the underside is absolutely solid which has been undersealed at some time. Doors, locks and catches work fine. Highly polished paintwork. In total there are four 12V sockets and 4 USB charging sockets. Lesiure Battery – Type B, high capacity, new in March 2021, 2 yr warranty 28” LG Smart TV (New Oct 2020) 6 months warranty. Stored in the roof, slides back, folds down and connects to a 12/230V invertor (or electric hook up), perfect for streaming Netflix/DisneyChannel/Prime/Now TV/iPlayer etc. This can be used by connecting to a mobile phone hotspot off-grid. The TV sound connects via Bluetooth to the campervan stereo, from the standard TV Speakers or bluetooth headphones. The TV works whilst driving for rear passengers to watch on the move! Fitted Fridge - 3 way fridge - works off 12V leisure battery, 230V electric hook up or gas. Electric hook up system is newly rewired and includes an inline 30mA, 30ms RCD protected inside the vehicle for maximum protection. It comprises a double 230V socket and a single socket for the fridge. Stereo - the upgraded stereo with JBL (Harman) speakers, twin amplifiers and hidden subwoofer. The amplifiers and subwoofer can easily be removed for additional storage space if required. The cab has also been refreshed. Both seats were removed and new a carpeted base fitted. The dashboard was removed and cab metalwork resprayed, finished with a new sleek under-dash tray fitted. Some areas were kept standard like the door trims and interior door and window surrounds to keep the feel of a classic vehicle. The dashboard and fascia are original and good condition with no cracks and is well fitted. New kickplate panels under the dashboard ensure the cab is presented to a high standard. A wireless reversing camera is fitted which takes power from the cab 12V socket and wirelessly receives the signal from the camera above the rear number plate wired to the reverse light for power. The screen attaches to the windscreen and is stored away in the glove box. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Twin port 1600cc engine with new pistons and barrels 700 miles ago and a new LUK clutch about 3,000miles ago. In mid April 2021 it had a major engine service with valve clearances adjusted, the carburettor tuned, ignition timing adjusted, replacement SVDA Distributor with PerTronix electronic ignition system and quality Blue Bosch ignition coil fitted. The fuel hoses have been upgraded to R10 specification, ethanol resistant, required for modern fuels. It pulls away on tickover and will easily cruise at 60mph. The gearbox is a standard 4 speed. The exhaust system is new (March 2021) and the heat exchangers are fine, these were replaced a few years go as validated in the comprehensive service history file. Engine tinware has been replaced or repainted and engine bay wiring has been tidied up and labelled. Finally, there is a new engine bay light so you can check the oil in the dark! WHEELS, TYRES, BRAKES & SUSPENSION Standard VW wheels are fitted with original VW Chrome hub caps. The wheels have been recently re-painted and the tyres have plenty of tread. In 2019, new handbrake cables were fitted along with and new rear wheel bearings and rear brake shoes. The brakes have just been professionally serviced and work extremely well. Front pads removed, cleaned and refitted. Suspension: rear shock absorbers were removed and checked, and new Sachs front shock absorbers fitted in April 2021. The tracking could probably benefit from slight adjustment, but this had been taken to three specialists and is considered minor. The vehicle handles surprising well and stops quickly when needed. HISTORY FILE Built in May 1979 and registered new in the UK in early 1980 it had a Devon Moonraker conversion. It was one of the last Type 2 vehicles to be built. There is a comprehensive folder of service history containing service invoices, maintenance receipts, parts fitted and every past MOT since 1994 which confirms the mileage over the last 27 years is accurate. It includes receipts for replacement panels, the engine, major services etc. The last major service at VolksMagic Birmingham cost over £1,100 on 20th April 2021 and included adjustments to the brakes, doors and engine so everything works well for the next owner.
