I've got a 2004 petrol Beetle a had a fettle over the last couple of years. What are you trying to work out?
My electric hood, central locking and drivers window not going down when I close the door as it should
Ah, ours is a hard top so not touched a soft top. But, we've had issues with the central locking so it could be the actuators on the CL giving you gip overall. They're a pig to get to and fix - I'll try and look up where I got my advice from.
My 'Beetle friend' says it is most likely an actuator AND you have to get a 2005 convertible specific one as non convertible actuators do not drop the glass enough. As I said they are a pig to get at
Does the locking on the passenger side twitch when you operate the driver's side switches. Is the hood controlled by a switch on the door? Could be the switch assembly itself. If it's like Polo, they have metal dome contacts which corrode over time. The whole switch assembly goes barmy. Worth checking your fuses as well.
Central locking on that generation of VWs is a weak spot. I think it's the attempts to make a more secure vehicle that cause problems as actuators and motors age
A common problem on golfs is the micro switch in the door lock. If it packs up, the car doesn’t know if the door is open or shut, and it gets all confused. If the interior light doesn’t come on when you open the drivers door, that’s your problem. A new lock mechanism from eBay for £20 sorts it out
Just remembered another Mk 4 speciality: collapsing window lifts. Open the front windows a bit, and the glass would suddenly vanish into the door, never to be seen again. Happened to me when it was peeing down with rain, predictably.
