Any one had problems with their exhaust gaskets rotting? Mine seem to only last a year then disintegrate and cause the exhaust to blow at £28 a set it’s becoming an issue I did notice that the flanges are not level/flat but bowed. I was thinking of buying a sheet of gas kit material and cutting my own Any thoughts
I am sure the gaskets on my Bug's exhaust are copper. That's another way of saying, shouldn't they be copper gaskets?
The ones that come from vintage speed are metal foil over carbon I think they are a funny size so you can’t get re-placements from anywhere other than vintage speed at great expense
It's a common thing with VS flanges. Large thick washers is the best cure so they say. It used to annoy me so much I welded all 4 short pipes onto the silencer right around the flanges. That didn't leak.
Nice looking engine Zed I think next time I change mine I will be liberal with some exhaust putty see if that helps the blowing Do you think if I heated the flanges with the blow torch and tapped them flat that would be ok the most curved ones are on the silencer so I wouldn’t want to mess up and damage it those vintage speed exhausts are not cheap
You could always buy some copper sheet, a hole saw of the correct diameter, and with a drill and some tinsnips and a blowtorch make annealed copper gaskets.
I might give that a go I could buy a slightly thicker gauge copper sheet and hammer it thinner where needed I think the hole is 46mm
That's what I will do with mine I might even sandwich it with some of that fancy stuff off demon tweeks
Good news found a replacement on eBay £4 for the pair the exhaust hole is the right diameter and the bolt holes are correct the flange is larger but they doesn’t effect performance 45mm hole 85mm bolt spacing
