I usually like Pep and think he’s pretty sound, and obviously a good manager. However, I think his recent talk about footballers have made him sound a bit of a muppet. This is what he’s said about footballers and having to isolate in footballing groups. Manager Pep Guardiola says football is "an island inside society" as they prepare for the big match in the shadow of another lockdown. "Everything is locked down except ourselves," he said. "When people say football players are special maybe it is the truth, I couldn't believe it before - I thought the doctors, teachers, architects, every person was the same - but it looks as if everything is closed except our business. "All the managers must adapt to the situation, this is the reality."
I can't really credit that footballers have been caught out flouting the rules and then been picked for the next game. They really need to get their house in order. People like Guardiola should be taking a lead and not sprouting nonsense.
He does seem a bit blinkered! His footy players may have restrictions on them but at least they can carry on playing footy with their mates and not have money worries! Where does he think his dinner comes from as he appears to think no one else is working? He sounds like a spoilt child.
I imagine the issue for many footballers is that they have a lot of time on their hands....I think historically that’s why there was a drinking and gambling culture. Or far darker habits.......Golf. You can’t train well for more than a couple of hours a day and have to have rest days, so what do you do with your time, especially as many are in a foreign country and possibly away from family? I assume coaches are having to deal with that downtime more than normal and are struggling.
yes - that got me too - but I suppose that Premier League football has the finances to carry on and can afford keep its players and officials separate from the general public when travelling etc.
But they can one of the exemptions of businesses and places permitted to remain open is for elite sports persons to train and compete (in indoor and outdoor sports facilities)
Alex when you said he sounds a bit silly I was somehow hoping for an interview where he does a Pinky and Perky type voice.
You are 100% correct Alex, Pep is losing it he said man city beat a very good Chelsea team, we are rubbish at the moment
It's not just the Premier League, apparently "Elite" football goes down to National League North/South
I think from that statement he might in fact be trying to remind the not all quite so bright professional footballers that they are being given special treatment, and that just going off and doing massive parties like they usually do in lockdown might cause a change in official attitudes.
And the eyes of the Government are upon them, and they shall be judged if they dont stop pratting around ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55615893
