    BBC mission statement:

Our mission is "to act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain".

Actually, their mission appears to be to pacify snowflakes by censorship and sanitization, to hide our offensive history (unless it was against ethnic minorities in which case it must be given the highest profile) and to completely ignore by far the majority of their dwindling audience.

Why don't they educate the snowflakes and tell them why words like faggot are used in that song rather than mollycoddle them in ignorance?

End of rant for the time being.

The below has come from The Sun, therefore it must be true!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    What does 'snowflake' mean?
Other than frozen rain, a "snowflake" is a term used to describe an overly sensitive person who thinks the world revolves around them.

Snowflakes gasp in horror when they hear an opinion they don't like, and believe they have a right to be protected from anything unpalatable.

Today's generation of sensitive uni students are often labelled snowflakes because they receive "trigger warnings" on books and lectures that might contain upsetting subjects.

Snowflake youngsters were horrified at un-PC jokes in the 90s sitcom Friends, which they saw for the first time when it was released on Netflix. The term was also used when people began complaining about old James Bond films starring Sean Connery.

The name comes from the phrase "special snowflake", meaning somebody who is self-obsessed and fragile, easily offended, or unable to deal with opposing opinions.

It became popular in 2016 when some older generations scoffed at young people's "hysterical" reaction to the EU referendum result.

Didn't last, as they never really stopped the real boozers .
I know there were real moonshine distilleries and beer vats here and there , but a hell of a lot of people were making there own beer for themselves on the quiet , let's face it it's not difficult ...all the ingredients can masked for something
That's the place ..it was a good venue , i went at least 10 times .
We used to toss the coin who would drive back to Ashbourne and keep off the booze ....it made no difference as the driver just got carried away and got plastered ...we all just piled into the car and be grateful not having to walk back to Ashbourne regardless of the toxic state of the driver .

  15. Anyway. Snowflake and why I ask. Clearly it means different things to different people. How is someone supposed to know what you mean if the only reference to its meaning is in your head. Anyway...If I were to tell you that it’s origins as a term of abuse was to describe a white person who was opposed to the abolition of slavery?

Given that it’s a term of abuse used by many with “right wing” views it’s rather ironic! I remember the character played by Randolph Walker using the term in the sitcom Love Thy Neighbour and just though it was a term of racial abuse from a black man to a white bigoted racist and that possibly both characters were racist. That was possibly what was intended. “Discussed” it at school (as you do) and our English teacher at the time gave me a slightly different perspective.

We were discussing not forgetting history and changing it to suit “snowflakes”. Seems the use of the term snowflake perfectly demonstarates that in action. Just a few thoughts there... oh yes and finally it’s just a form of bullying really to call people snowflakes. We all do that sort of thing to prove our point. Some of us get called out for it. Others not so much!

They’re the opposite of the gammons, I believe :D. In fairness I think it’s a bit of a stereotype of a proportion of the population who seem to take offence at everything and anything. If you believe the predominantly right wing press, (shall I call them the gammon press for a bit of balance?) they’ve infiltrated every part of our lives, and of course the lefty liberal BBC (which it isn’t but don’t let the likes of the Mail stop ramming that message down their readerships throats.) is a hot bed of these snowflakes. The truth probably lies somewhere in between. The fact is that attitudes to things change over time. If you believe some of the press, the liberal do-gooders (do-gooder, another useful phrase to use if you are righteously indignant about a whole raft of things that are probably not as much of an issue as you imagine), the snowflakes want to erase our history. Well, I don’t know about that, I don’t think there’s any harm in looking at your history in a more inclusive way. You can still admire Churchill while accepting he was a very complex character, massively likeable, but also problematic (also I think the current PM isn’t fit to wipe WC’s boots but that’s an argument for another time). Or you can have a polarised opinion based on scant knowledge, that either he was an unblemished hero and no one is allowed to say otherwise, or he’s a racist. The Mail and media of that ilk will scream that the BBC is bending over backwards to appease the snowflakes. But the Tories and their press hate the BBC anyway, hate anything that they see as snowflakey or do-goodery. Hence the Mail’s keen-ness to run a story about Marcus Rashford’s wealth , or to run any and every story that portrays Megan Markle in a less than flattering light. The problem is the right wing press will always flag up the extremes of any story, and that just gets people more polarised and stuck in their way of thinking. So, if anyone calls you a snowflake, pound to a penny they’re a gammon
