During the cultural revolution in Iran during the 80's the West was horrified that they were cleansing history, banning books, films etc that did not meet the criteria of the various cultural committees. Fast forward a few years to Syria and the west were wetting their beds when ISIS bulldozed historic monuments as they didn't agree with the history of them. Fast forward a few more years and...........................Statues torn down, repeats of old tv shows banned, "gender specific" books removed from schools, classic music tracks edited to remove "offensive" words and it's all seen as a good thing! I'm not making a political point in any way but I am concerned that we are rewriting our own history and we aren't far off from a cultural revolution ourselves. Once we've erased the music, destroyed the films and burned the books there's no way back.
It will, and has, had the opposite effect, ban it, censor it, the song, in it's original form will just become more popular
Remember the scene in Iran when booze was thrown in the road...a street in a city, and all the members of the public had watch a bull dozer crushing all the tins and bottles . The road was foaming with booze . I was in tears .
It's not still going is it ...The Sandpiper . or is it a club with new I.D and name . I know when we first went you could still see remnants of a previous era The sixties , as some of the old psychedelic frescoes were still on view ...all be it half wiped out with matt black paint which was the decor of the punk era . Come to think of it is even the old lace market still there ?
Ha yes indeed I wonder when there comes a time when they make it law That you can have a classic car.. But It cannot be driven on the road because it offends The environmental types.. The very thought Well we will see
