Newbie Alert...

  1. Hello all- I'm Ben, and I'm the happy owner of two Bays, a 74 and a 77. The 74 was purchased converted to a milk shake bar, and because it was in a shopping centre it had all the transmission/oily bits pulled out. It's pretty good in rust terms, so it's been a desire of mine for a while to get it back on the road... hence the 77 which I bought last week as an unfinished project (yes, another one) to nick the drive train from.

And so the fun begins... the engine that's being swapped is a Type 4 2 litre that's been standing for 6 years. It turns by hand ok, but I'm going to change oil, plugs, fuel and a few ancillaries before seeing if it will fire up. It turns out that the bodywork isn't too shabby on the new one, so I may keep it and down the line put another engine in- perhaps a project for my sons and I.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be asking for lots of advice- I've plenty of experience on vehicles but not air cooled! Happy to offer help and advice too where I'm able- this is a community after all. Hope to see some of you on the road in the future!

    Cheers
    Ben

    Welcome from France.
If you change the oil only remove the strainer plate if you’re brave – and know not to overtighten the retaining nut.

Do you plan to continue selling shakes..

  11. Not sure at this stage. We have the full kit and have been making shakes at home for us all summer! It will depend how the bus turns out I think.

  13. That number plate is worth a few quid.

  14. It’s not real, sadly, but I do have original plates and V5. If it was real it would probably fetch more than the bus!

Does your bus bring all the boys to the yard?

  20. I wonder why they cut the side, rather than just cutting the sliding door? I don't suppose they thought anyone would want to put it back to original but I would have thought cutting the door would be easier to reverse?
