Ok. Going to give wild camping a try. What’s the best (on a budget) kit to get? Tent, sleep bag, etc? I’m used to the great outdoors, and no stranger to weather, but I’m thinking that overnight beach fishing gear may be a bit cumbersome. (Plenty of warm clothing).
Being of a certain age, Lady Norris and myself like a few creature comforts when camping. A tent you can stand up in, and a king size air bed So... erm... not much help to the OP
Snugpak sleeping bags are great, the softie or hawk are good synthetic bags. Don't bother with a down bag on a budget. MSR pocket rocket stove, you'll need a windshield made or bought in ally foil. Sleeping mats are going for under a tenner. As for tent I had a decent one from @paradox but can't remember whar it was. I've got a Hilleburg Akto, but that's daft money, though by far the best tent I've ever had. Need a trowel to dig a poop hole too.
Those Coleman instant Dome 5 's are a good swift erection ..oooh a say ! . you can put them up in a matter of 2 mins including pegging up . Use mine to shove all me clobber in instead of an awning when in our bus . Seem to remember they were about £70 or so , half that on ebay i bet .
I’ve got a 5 season ex Dutch army sleeping bag you can have cheep it a bit bulky but warm and slightly waterproof.
The problem is light weight kit for wild camping aint cheap. I'd have a Terra Nova tent and Rab down sleeping bag. If you are wild camping then a green tent means you will blend in with your surroundings.
Check out Paul messner on YouTube he has some cracking videos on budget kit. Did my first wild camp up kinder scout a few months back, looking forward to the next one whenever that is. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
This one was great whilst touring. Packs up small, light weight and only £60. OEX from Go Outdoors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Shame , sold all my backpacking stuff mid-lockdown .. Budget tents are ok but usually heavier and less waterproof - aim for a something sub 1.5kg if you can afford it . Terra Nova for the win , even second hand . Don`t go for a down bag , a good synthetic bag will get you sorted . Generally Snugpak are good but bulky - Alpkit are great value if you can still get them or indeed afford it . Cooking - one lightweight cooking pot . Titanium ones have come down in price , and you can`t go wrong with an MSR if you can afford it . Osprey for a decent rucksac , don`t buy cheap or anything over 40 ltr as you`ll just fill it full of crap and be uncomfortable . Aim for 12kg maximum pack weight , as well as numerous overnight and weekend trips in the dales i had a week on the West Highland Way with just 12 kg , buying food as i went . Or just buy a cheapo bivvy bag , a bottle of plonk and sleep in a puddle ... Enjoy
The Alpkit stuff is good. Still got my sleeping bag, rollmat and bivvy bag from my solo LEJOG trip in 2009. They do a nice fold up stove guard too for just over a tenner. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Great pics The only Alpkit item i`ve kept are a pair of featherweight carbon walking poles on the premis i might need them one day . I`ve also kept my KESTREL 35ltr rucksac "just in case" and keep looking at used Robert Saunders tents ...
I like the tents I like that you don't have to peg them down if you don't want to. Seems like I'm tripping over the lines after a few beers . And the morning toilet run ,,, The criss cross type of polls . I have this one pictured here was about a hundred. Aluminum poles etc . Somewhere Near Cadiz . With my ol chopper that I haven't freakin ridden IN over a year ...
ha ha the bike is big, the perspective distorting, but yeah it’s pretty small. I’m 5’8.5 and it’s was ample for me, even with room behind my head to leave a small bag. Could sit up just enough. Didn’t feel small once inside and the rain sheet extends beyond the tent so things like shoes got left out but under that. Put my rucksack in a waterproof duffle bag and chained it to the bike.
