Anyone near Alfreton know a motor factors that stocks our stuff?

  1. Help, I'm in a pub car park in Morton, near Alfreton, Derbyshire.

It's a long shot but I thought I might as well try. Here's the story...

The Bus coughed into life for about a minute this morning then died. I thought initially fuel issue and started diagnosis.

I finally got signs of life after diagnosing no spark, I put in spare dizzy, fresh rotor arm etc and finally my spare coil. After doing the coil she spluterred into life. The timing was all over the place. I couldn't time the Bus on my own, so I thought I'd put the timed dizzy back as the coil must have died. Problem solved! Did that and got two coughs and then no spark again. I am certain the electronic ignition in my original dizzy has failed and has now taken out both coils, original and spare.

Does anyone know of anywhere locally I can get a coil? RAC have gone hunting, phone calls to local motor factors have drawn a blank. Best I have is GSF and an RAC return visit in the morning :(

  7. I think that's where the RAC chap went with my coil. Has the place changed hands, recently. I was a bit phased after spending a frustrating morning, but one of the places the RAC chap called said they had an upstairs full of parts but wasn't sure what was there as they'd just taken it over.

The only other place I can suggest is PG Automotive over in Matlock, they may have a new one.

I have an old Lucas LA12 here, I have no idea if it works or not

  11. I'm not familiar with that one. Is it your standard 3 ohm coil?

It came off Gusbus; did work about six years ago. If you want to try it, I'm ten mins away

  13. GSF have one in Brum which will be delivered locally tomorrow, let's just hope my diagnosis is correct. But the spare coil and spare dizzy worked together, just the timing was off. RAC man here, let's hope for good news.

  14. ...but...it’s difficult to damage a coil. I reckon your prob lies elsewhere.

  15. A coil is here but it only has a screw thread on one pin.

do you want this one here to try?

  17. It fired twice on the spare coil and the original dizzy before no spark. Both spare coil and spare dizzy and she ran.

  18. Not yet, thanks. Going back to first principles.
