Well it's on (3/4" drive sliding t-bar with 6ft scaffold pole was used). Too scared to put oil in. Going to waterproof my plywood door cards set instead.
what? is this true? the thread slowly spirals in to sarcastic comedy so im not sure if this is some weird in-joke.
Nope it's true. If it's not leaking then leave the strainer bolt well alone, it's not the best of designs on the Type 4 engine, apparently. You will get used to the humour on here, I did, eventually. Then you'll be a mad as the rest of 'em
That's exactly what I thought for a minute. But it is deadly serious. Haynes casually mentions 10 lb ft but no warning. Just Google it and look at the photos of the potential damage earlier in this post.
It’s not some weird in-joke, everyone with a type 4 knows, or at least should know, that the strainer bolt should not be overtightened, it has a low torque for a reason – look at the pics. Don’t touch it unless you have to, it’s not like a type 1, you don’t need to inspect the strainer at every oil change; a type 4 has an oil filter, leave the strainer alone.
More info here. https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/type-4-engine-oil-strainer-query.70851/ – you’ve been warned.
I looked at the reviews on their website and somebody refers to another review which mentions the problem but that one had been deleted. Ergo JK know about it but would rather you didn't?
If you can...keep an eye out on eBay for an original Swedish washer tank. Don't see them very often. They're vast (meant for both windscreen and headlight washers) and take up the whole right-hand kick panel space. I managed to find one by chance. Much better than the ridiculous torpedo bottle thing.
