  1. Nice one Barry, this should surely be moved into the "How to" section and made permanent

There seems a lot of interest in this so it probably will be pinned for future reference, what do you think @bernjb56 ?

You can buy brand spanking new from awsome powdercoat in the states. Including shipping and tax...wait for it...£170.

Wow:eek: you're better off buying a 10 Vane T1 thermostat and converting it,( easy job) the 13 vane T1 opens at 65-70°, the 10vane opens at 80-85° and the T4 at 85-90° so hardly any difference

I thought the T4 failed safe but the T1 design in a T4 did not. May be wrong on this but worth checking.

Once the thermostat is damaged the alcohol escapes and it will fail, they are all designed to fail in the open position to protect the engine from frying

I wanted 85-90, my oil doesn't get hot enough. :)

Although it says 80-85 and 85-90 they open about 10% less

OK it might have been the 914 thermostat that I had read about.

Even more reason to get the highest temp one. :)

I’ve heard that you don’t really need the flaps and thermostat unless you are doing loads of short journeys, like an everyday driver would to and from work, etc.
For the warming of your engine, which causes less valve wear overtime, but for a longish journey, every now and again,it dosnt matter so much.
I’m sure someone will be along to correct me,as usual…

Yes, me. Apparently they are in more or less constant motion. You should pop over to Samba if you want science rather than the pub. :)

Is that due to different air temps moving over the thermostat? And sat in traffic, etc?
