The locks on my Devon roof don’t do anything when you twist them so I thought I’d take a look... I took one side of struts apart and had a look up the tube and guess what??? Nothing! There is no mechanism on mine. The ‘locks’ have two rivets holding them on and when I look down the tube I can see the other end of the rivets, but nothing else.. Not even a hole in the tube for a mechanism.. Does anyone have a similar roof?? Am I missing something here??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You just turn them sideways, so they move against the semicircular plates on the roof member (which you don’t appear to have). <edit> There’s no locking mechanism inside the strut itself.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! That makes perfect sense! Now I know why they do nothing at all! Is there anywhere I can get hold of some???
Cut some out of plate? Mine are so misaligned, they don't really do anything. The roof seems to stay down by itself.
I thought I might have to make my own!! For the most part the roof stays down however I live in South Wales and it gets a bit gusty going over the old bridge in particular. The roof on occasion has been known to lift whilst going over, so keen to stop it from happening again!
No. It's me with a tape printer . I've no idea why they put the warning on, as the latches completely miss the ceiling anyway.
I may be able to get a few Devon logo stickers, if you're interested. They're like the old Soviet hammer and sickle, except they're a hammer and blunt screwdriver
Seeing as you are so knowledgeable about Devons, perhaps you could give me a bit of advice regarding the bunks? I know they are a pile of junk however the missus is heart set on getting some put in. I’ve got the newer type of Devon roof and I’ve seen two types of bunk. I think I need to look for the type with the metal hook attached to the bunk as opposed to the type with the hook on the roof that the bunk attaches to. Is that right??
They are a pile of junk. My late Devon ones had hooks on the bunks that clipped into stout metal oblong rings in the roof members. They may have been removed when you had your fancy headlining done. Mine are still there - too much hassle to remove.
I’ve got a stout oblong metal ring on the rear bracket, but nothing on the front bracket... So I guess not quite that stout then?!
Here y'go. Two big "staples", two at front, two at back. They're revolting. They have small aluminium skid plates behind them. Yours appear to have have gone missing. (Just noticed how filthy my headlining is).
The Devon roof on my first Bay was great..... Maybe I got lucky! The Holdsworth roof on our current van is rubbish in comparison...
