I dropped my type 4 engine today and I gave engine bay, fuel tank and rear chassis/underbody a closer inspection for rust etc. Thought I’d give it a bit of a clean also whilst I was there. For a 45 year old bus I’m amazed that I haven’t found any serious rot.... yet. Surely I must come across some soon?! Let’s hope not! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congrats mate - but careful what you wish for Great looking bus. Gotta love a good 70’s stripe. Stirlingmoz
excellent news. Now the engine is out check all fuel and breather hoses and replace with 100% ethanol resistant stuff
Thanks all, much appreciated. I think I may need to get some of those valves for heaters the internals and linkages look very corroded - At least I think that’s what they are? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Question time. I think I want to convert my bus to a naked nose with a badge - I’ve read a bit on here re prototype bay badges and late bay badges etc. I’m no expert but from looking at the front panel, to me it looks as though the three empty holes are in fact a prototype bay set up. Herman is a late bay. So my question is am I right in thinking that if at some point it’s had a new front end the early front end has been fitted to a late bay? He’s a bit denty, damn spare wheel! I doubt it's an early front end as the indicators would be in a different place. More likely just drilled for a badge.
Looks late bay badge to me, earlies are half way up, lates are lower, level with the headlights. Probably easiest cover the dents with a spare wheel...oh.
I guess the only way is measure up get an late badge and see if it fits? Thank you for you’re advice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It looks to me there has been a spare wheel mount bracket and a logo fitted sometime hence the holes. See its on Essex reg plates and with no rust assume its a import! Nice van BTW.
Thanks all for the comments and advice - I have ordered a late badge and clips from VWH. I may relocate the spare wheel, but at least I have both options for now. I think I just prefer it with no spare wheel on the nose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am in the process removing the fuel tank now for it’s completely drained for further inspection - which hose is best, R9 stuff? Which diameter?. Currently have a FI tank with some blanked off pipes. as the bus was originally FI but has been converted to Carbs 10 or so years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks as though it’s had a fair few nudges, but I don’t mind that for now. A 45 year old face is bound to have a few wrinkles Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
