My answer was for Paul and his stroker type-1. Your type-4 has a more elaborate maze in the case and inside the can the breather is attached to prevent so much oil getting into the breather pipe and doesn't feature the down tube with it's rubber valve. Paul's older design drips oil onto the road - I guess we can thank California for the redesign.
I would if I had one and wanted the suck. May as well have as much as you can? I've never stumbled on a comparison to stock in terms of suckiness but then I don't believe in it anyway. It's just a vent to my small brain.
I've made a contraption from a yoghurt weavers pot lined with a Merkin, so I don't drip oil on the road
Strangely, the extra lubrication from the oil spray from the oil bath is cited as a good thing with an oil bath cleaner. The breather acts as an oil bath top up, it feeds the input of the filter, with a restrictor flap upstream in the airflow to ensure reduced crankcase pressure . So poking it down in a carb downstream of the filter is a little better than not connecting it. I hope he blocked off the air filter bypass hole he made .
The part is only £3-4 if you fancy it. See above post, I even found one for you. Ask your builder about it?
Thanks very much. Ill double check if it already has one if not ill get one and give it ago. Pleased JK have them as I've got a £75 JK voucher and they have very little that i want or need. Added to my basket along with some cab window air vents. To let air in when sleeping in hot weather, but keeping the bugs out. Shame JK don't sell the right butty bits accelerator linkage for my bus, or stock 123 distributors!
yeah i did, im not in a hurry for one, its been fine without and no major bus trips for a while! It doesn't mention a one way valve in them, i hope its not just a angled bung.
It's the valve itself rather than containing one, it has a closed slit in the beak end. If sucked it clamps up tighter, if blown it opens up. It what conditions it blows I know not, perhaps accumulated oil simply drips out when the engine is not running. You might need to keep your yoghurt weaver's pot.
It won’t be the same without breathing in all the engine bay fumes. I’ve actually mutated to adapt and as such have developed gills. This was my latest picture.
Are they the 3/8" NPT ones? I may have a grommet in the garage - it's Grommet City in there - I can send you (fer nowt).
Yeh, they’re the 3/8 ones. That would be very nice indeed the metal thread is about 16.5mm, so I’d guess a little smaller than this?
No, the idea is for the negative pressure to pull blow by out of the crankcase to reduce oil contamination and to reduce emissions to the atmosphere by burning the fumes. You could but you don’t need to. Crankcase vent to one air filter, fuel tank vent to the other, simple. And I disagree with zedders .The vent needs to be between the filter element and the carb so the pressure drop across the filter element provides a small vacuum to pull fumes from the crankcase. If the vent is upstream of the filter it will slowly but surely be contaminated with oil. That’s also why those little filters on the breather tower are completely useless.
