Self employed help

  1. A lot of you guys might already know this, but in order to be able to make a claim for the financial support that’s soon going to be released for self employed people, then you need a Government Gateway account number.

i didn’t have one, but I set one up first time on the .gov website last night. I’ve heard a couple of conflicting reports, for instance one mate of mine was told today by his accountant that he would set him up, my accountant has told me that I had to do it, I think cos I’m a sole trader.

Once done I was told by HMRC that I can make an application on May 14th, a mate of mine got May 15th I think, anyway it’s not hard so you might as well do it now so you are ready as I bet the demands gonna be mental next week trying to create an account. Just to warn you, you will need your NI number and your unique tax number with I found on a recent letter from HMRC.

    hope this helps

  2. Thought that hrmc were going to get in touch with eligible people ?

  3. You need to be registered with them on the gateway apparently. I hadn’t heard a thing from them, I set up the gateway account as was suggested to me, and the next morning I received a text from them saying that I might be eligible and to log in on May 14th up till that point, nothing from them.

Did you get a letter in the post?

  5. No. No mail at all.

  6. Done mine today
    Can claim next week

  7. You have to check on government site and log into gateway
And see if you are eligible

  8. Both myself and my wife received a letter this morning asking us to set up the gateway thing...we use it for vat and stuff but we had to set up 1 in each name today instead of businesses...
We then received email back and we have the date of the 15th to go to next stage.
I think they are trying to separate people so it doesn't overload the system.
It's simple to set up the gateway.

  9. My accountant has told me i'm not eligible , which is not the best news .
If you've got a good accountant he will be able to tell you wether you can put in a claim or not.

  13. Glad to be of assistance. Tough enough at the minute without either missing out or having a delay in your claim.
