Came to the van the other morning to find it leaking petrol at a rate of about a drip a second. A brief but unpleasantly fuel-soaked investigation revealed that the brass fuel line that goes through the forward engine-box bulkhead had worn through. The grommet that should have prevented this had also worn through (not easy to see, even with it out). Just a Christmas reminder to everyone to check the hard lines, as well as the soft ones.
Yeah. I did an in situ repair with JB Weld, since I was in the Peaks for the week. Any ideas for a source for a stainless replacement?
I found the EMPI (what?!) replacement steel pipe was fine. Need to bend it to shape and, as you, say replace the grommet. Even a bit of steel brake pipe would do. Never seen a stainless one.
If you want stainless go on ebay.. My setup has copper but with 5cm of fuel hose rammed through the tin as a heavy grommet that I pushed along the pipe and then forced through the tin where it stays even when the tinware comes off the engine. No problems .. replaced a stock steel pipe section with a noticeable groove in it..
its all about the grommet, mine was missing and the metal pipe grooved when I bought my van. new metal pipe section and sturdy grommet sorted it.
Did look for 5mm pipe but only find copper or nickel not steel. Any links to this Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
I made the hole in the tin bigger and just ran the flexible pipe with a grommet straight through so there’s less joints to leak
