Towing a caravan with a bug sounds expensive tbh. A moggie with a little trailer not so. I reckon Lou’s moggy minor was more economical than any of my bugs

To this day I reckon Alec Issigonis nicked the body shape of a moggy from looking at vw beetles

Bath moggy centre. Thank you for that memory btw. They were legends during my resto, and the Malvern Morris minor specialist by the station who did all the work :hattip:

Do you remember their little hand produced catalogue?

Think i still have one somewhere . I had 1 traveller ( white ) 2 vans white and maroon and a dark blue saloon and an almond green one used for spares .
What was an awkward job was the master cylinder in the shape of a big baked potato , and was situated in the top hat chassis .

The bolts that went through it had the bolt head end next the torsion bar on the inside of the chassis , so if you had to change it you had to cut the bolt with a hack saw blade or get the hot spanner . Then when re fitting put the bolt the right way round ....must have been the way they did it on production line ....mind you they were put like that on the last ones on my K reg van

I’ll never forget Morris minors tbh. My first job was as an apprentice mechanic in a car body workshop. My first day was spent sitting in a moggy on the four poster ramp with a fairy liquid bottle full of water ready to dowse any fire that might break out while the gaffer replaced the sills. He then had me spend two weeks T cutting the same car after replacing and spraying in four new wings. Two whole weeks T cutting one car.

The owner was so pleased with the outcome she gave me a two quid tip.

My first car was a 2 door 1969 Morris Minor, aside the trunnion issues and rust it was a brilliant car. Taking the engine and gear box out was so simple, all of the wings bolted on so could be replaced easily. Everything was so accessible. The master cylinder was a pain but it was still only a couple of bolts and a hamer needed to remove the torsion bar.
I fitted mine with a 1098cc sprite engine and spax adjustable shock absorbers, they did a kit that bolted to the bottom of the upright and onto the body. With standard crossplies it was fine but as soon as a fitted wider radials it kept breaking half shafts. handled like a go kart. I did about 50k trouble free miles in it before selling it onto my brother.

BTW, I saw a Bassets wagon this week. All white livery on a pallet line contract. Boring!

Marinas did that too. Had to rescue my brother from Dorset, thread stripped and a gouge in the tarmac off the roundabout at Wimborne. Back to Southampton, raid a scrappy by the Itchen, back to Wimborne with front suspension parts. Wind it back in, drive off. Didnt know where Poole scrappies were..

Shame ..i remember when they were the last ones to run S 39's and even S 21 's ( mickey mouse ) right up to 1981 in there light blue and dark blue cabs and red chassis .
Went to see Ashley Basset as i nearly bought one of his old artics to restore but put off as it was a 8 legger cut down ...with a 180 Gardner .
Extinction rebellion would cut my balls of starting that up on a cold January morning .
