Does your van have a drink problem?

  1. They’ll actually take 3 litres with no ill effects, if you fancy a bit more oil...

  2. Put some load on the engine to put some pressure behind the rings and bed them into the cylinder. Find a quiet bit of road preferably up hill.
Accelerate at about 3/4 throttle up to about 50mph in 3rd and then let off and allow the engine to decelerate down to 30mph. Do this 5 or 6 times is enough to bed in the rings.

    Yes, as Gooders described.

  6. As a follow up I've found that one of my rockers has been leaking so the under tin and heat ex are oily but it doesn't drip on standing. Can I assume that the rocker chambers are under some pressure with the engine running so that a small leak would be enhanced, expelling oil but turning off when parked. I'll tell you more when I've got a few miles on.

  7. They should only be at crankcase pressure which providing your breather isn’t blocked should not be much above atmospheric pressure. There will be more oil knocking around in the covers when running due to drain from the rockers and splash up the tubes. This drains back to the sump when turned off.
