I’m not going to do the discs tomorrow. If I can rebuild the callipers I will. If not I’ll just order a complete front kit of parts and start again.
Discs look almost new as do the pads, sticky caliper perhaps, easy way to test for a collapsed brake line, Jack it up,hold pedal down as hard as you can for 10 seconds, see if the wheel will spin
You best get this fixed or you’re in a tent next weekend you sorry sack of sheep’s Pish. All the best. Matt
Stops nicely. They’ve never squeeled as much or as loudly as they do now though. The anti-squeal shins wouldn’t fit. Perhaps I’ll have to try again!
Jesus it is embarrassing! 50 - 5 mph = silence. 5mph - standstill = screeeeeech. Presumably nothing else I should be looking at other than trying to get the anti-squeal plates in?
Did you say that you'd put new pads in...sometimes the make/quality can make a difference. Last time mine squeeled on of the pads was actually broken...heavy handed fitting .
Yep, new pads and fitting kit. Just couldn’t get the anti-squeal plates in. I’ll have a look tomorrow!
A few emergency stops from 50 mph should deglaze the discs and might stop the screech. Did you put some copper grease on the back of the pads?
File a slight angle on the leading edge of the pads, and the edge nearest the centre of the disk, fit the plates, and then, if they still squeal, Chuck them over snottys fence, and buy some nice expensive branded pads. The bog standard ones you get from suppliers seem to glaze up in no time. If you scuff them up you will get about 5 miles of quiet braking before it returns.. I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but I'm assuming your calipers are not sticking?
New callipers fitted. GSF bogo pads so they’re probably shoite! I’ll give them a file tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. Cheers
Right, just out the old pads back in with the anti-squeal plates and they’re equally as noisy..... proper embarrassing noise, not just a little squeal. What am I doing wrong?? Edit: do the pistons have to be orientated to sit in the 2 indentations on the squeal plates?
Now I’ve got the new pads with the anti squeal plates and it’s still noisy. Anyone recommend any decent pads? Anyone tried greenstuff/ yellowstuff/ bluestuff? Greenstuff are about £55...
