I have a brass fitting which is part of my oil pressure gauge set up screwed into the oil warning light hole. I foolishly took it out and now it's back in it leaks. It's a tapered fitting, maybe an M10. I'm nervous about tightening it up any more. Has anybody got the torque setting for this? Can I put teflon tape on it?
Yes the male fitting is tapered and there's maybe 5mm of thread exposed when it's screwed in what seems tight to me.
That’s sounds ok. You could just try nipping it up a bit more. Don’t go mad, or you might crack the boss in the case. Could seal with teflon tape, but this would insulate the body of the sender from the case, so you’d have to make other earthing arrangements, or the gauge/sender wouldn’t work.
I’ve added some tape and it now seems OK. Electrics aren’t a problem as there’s an earth wire to the sender unit. (to anybody who needs to know, make damn sure you don’t lose the fitting down inside the tin)
