Anyone found a way of keeping silicone usable after it has been opened? I mean the stuff in the cartridges. I’ve tried clingfilm over the end of the nozzle, but it didn’t work. Maybe a screw top on the end of the tube, without the nozzle, would help. But would it still go unusable after the air has got to it?
Clingfilm over the end of the cartridge tube, held down by the nozzle (which is always going to bung up).
Cling film is too thin and lets through water vapour. I have managed to seal tubes by using fairly heavy PVC bag material screwed under the tip. Or wide insulating tape. The trick is also to make sure that the tape or plastic touches a flat wiped clean surface on the end of the tube so there are no possible whiskers of curing silicone creeping under the seal.
Full nozzle off, Cling film across the open threaded end of the cartridge, nozzle back on, Double tin foil over the nozzle and compressed down the sides, Fat round nail into nozzle end ..... "Belt and braces" but always works for us scrimpers (just remember to take the cling film off next time you use it )
