oooh, controversial! i like birkenstocks but mainly for chillier times/more formal occasions. they didn't make the cut in packing last week. i'm generally looking for footwear that is as close to no footwear as possible, i prefer being barefoot but it's not always practical. Teva have always been my favourite but i did have a fall out with them when they started putting built up soles on thankfully they seem to have got over that silliness! the 'sandal things' just make me shudder. i also realised last week that a fake breton tied over the shoulders seems to be the costume of the middle-aged brit abroad (avec sandals). sometimes you just can't tut loud enough
it was/is shame you couldn't swim in the sea. some risked it but all the warning were not to. no idea if it's always like that or just in 'winter'. I suspect when the whole of that coastline is covered in hotels, they'll be putting some sort of breakers in. I had a paddle but the waves were HUGE in places and crossey said it's £35k for a helicopter to fish you out

I think Birkenstocks just remind me of the sandals the music and RE teachers wore in school!! Eek! .... I have a fake Breton from a few years ago, although in my defence it’s last outing was as a Frenchman with onions round my neck and a beret! And I’ve never tied it over my shoulders My old Teva sandals still get dragged out occasionally when flip flops aren’t quite rugged enough, but really I’m just the original old fashioned Converse wearer from my teenage years, there’s very few occasions when a pair of All Stars don’t cut it Edit: a quick google has revealed that Birkenstock do make a toe post flip flop type thingie which looks very unlike my old maths teachers choice of sandals..... @Ermintrude these I assume?
I feel so behind with travelling outside the UK and Ireland. I must come across so niave and uncultured - I've got a lot to learn about travel. I think I'm picking it up at the wrong end of life too and in uncertain times. Forget Brexit, get out there, mate. Broadens the mind. First stop, the US of A. Huge country, friendly folk who speak your language (well, maybe not Brummie), stunning scenery

I’d hold off till this bunch of t******s havnt sorted Sumat or go further a field but travel insurance could have to change too, they really are gona be in a mess when we can’t travel to Europe because of their own crazy rules. Hold tight or go far imo.
I never really fancied the states, except Hawaii or California, but went reluctantly years ago as a relief carer for a group of foster children.... had an ace time! Have friends over there and an open invitation... I suspect I wouldn’t like Texas
