I want your old woollies!

  1. There’s a nip in the air arriving... if you dig out your woollies to find moths have feasted upon them..... save them for me!

  5. Usually hand knits are made with acrylic wool. But if proper wool (from woolly things like sheep) then yes please!
If they shrink or moths eat them then they’ll be natural fibres

  9. Yes, Any and all, even wool knit scarves! Everything gets shrunk then cut up to make new fabric.

I even use children’s knits for sleeve and hood pieces as these are often more colourful.

I made this coat by starting with my shrunken gap striped scarf. Although it only formed the hood around the face, ends of sleeves and a few bits in the pixie hood, the whole coat only came about because of it

Doesn’t matter how small, moth eaten or shrunk... large pieces are used for making clothes, the waste from that then makes armwarmers [IMG]

The waste from armwarmers makes hats [IMG]

And any other waste bit are kept for either proggy or hooky rug making (not sure I have time yet) or the really small bits and trims off the overlocker are saved to be a natural wool stuffing for some Yorkshire tweed draught excluders I’ve yet to make. [IMG]

Just need to get an industrial overlocker now as my little juki does really well but suffers each time

Still lots of ideas for other things too... just need woollies, time and a machine that can cope with it all :D

  16. So rude! This coat is a bit too big for me but it’s nice to hide in. Not put it for sale yet as I love the colours and the velvet and won’t be able to make one exactly the same... and I’ll miss her! :(

Not sure I’m cut out for capitalism. Yesterday sold a lambswool jacket and soft sleeves for what the materials cost me because the young woman who tried them on looked ace and loved them so much. :)

  19. Good! He’s an odious git.

Been trying to convince local charity shops to sell their unsaleable woollies to me for at least twice the price the rag man gives them but they won’t :(
