That’s the plan owen The arch step is just surface corrosion as I thought and I’d imagine the rest is the same
The work is appalling Para, you're doing a fine job fixing it, mine had been done to a similar standard 12 years ago and mine went within 2 years.
That is a lot of little areas around the van... quite shocking. Mine was restored by PO’s mate who could weld... needs doing again too
Can you not call upending a tin of filler on the roof and sculpting it as it flows down the sides restoration then?
Were all these areas that are you now sorting, actually filled over by the last restorer? Or is it possible they were already covered in filler and he's just painted straight over it?
i remember it so well , thats why am shocked it went like that , given the level of you went to , it must have been trapped moisture on the panels
I think this thread also shows the dangers of keeping the van stored for a long period of time under a cover, mine went this way after doing so, they never let the van get dry.
Agreed, it would be very interesting to know how it would have faired in comparison if it had been used continuously instead of standing, using and getting airflow through everything inside and out plus warmth from the engine etc !
Its them covers, every time I took mine off it was damp, in the winter you get condensation even though its never rained and it stays wet all day and night as theres no air flow to dry them ,they're utter van rotters.
Cover or no cover When you weld in sheet steel that’s all ready corroded Or apply normal filler over an inch thick it’s never going to turn out well A cover also has no bearing on not sanding filler back before paint or painting over the top of dried mud on the arch lip Nor does it have a bearing on not properly prepping gutters and painting over the top of moss Most of the faults started to show within the first few months of it coming back to me during this time my van was under a car port with three open sides and plenty of airflow. It’s a gash Job due to lack off/ poor prep and corners being cut along with being painted in a damp environment. I don’t want this all to kick off again I’ve had my soul destroyed by it all already. I’ve accepted it is what it is and picked myself back up and I’m sorting it bit by bit. In my head I’m telling myself it’s a tatty van I’ve recently bought and I’ve to stop it getting any worse and to tidy it up. I’m just showing in my thread how I’m doing things as I go along as does anyone in a resto thread. I’m looking forward not back!
