In the past I have given the camper van to the garages to service. Today I went to do an oil change and for the life of me I can't get the oil filter off. I have a T2 SA microbus 1800 engine and the oil filter is in an awkward position and I can't get it off be turning anticlockwise by hand and my oil wrench does not fit between the casing, Tips, tools? Wrap a loop of webbing strap or similar Wind it round tightening with screwdriver Using screwdriver to get a good hold It’s a Cleaner option That’s what we do on our plant machinery etc But might not be possible in confined space
Pop down to Halfords or cheaper versions on Ebay https://www.halfords.com/workshop-t...lfords-advanced-adjustable-oil-filter-remover https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Leg-2-...568690&hash=item3d2dd8fef4:g:aK8AAOSw6DtYURGe
Bang 2 screwdrivers in the base opposite each other and get a bar or spanner between them to use as a lever
I sometimes use a pair of 12" Knipex pump pliers. They open wide enough to pinch indentations in an oil filter and get a grip on it without puncturing it.
Had the occasional one stick but probably just oily and couldnt get a grip. Used pump pliers as per above. They cant be that tight unless someones used a box spanner. Only tighten by hand when you replace and a smear of oil on the seal.
Tried the strap technique failed, bottled out on sticking 2 screw drivers through because I want to get away on Tuesday and not sure if \I can drive with 2 holes through my oil filter, will look for a tool, as I am the man who has got the kit and does not know what to do with it, although I don't know what a pump plier is. Thanks for your advice again. darron
i have an old one of these, goes just about big enough to get a grip on a filter: https://www.screwfix.com/p/slip-joi...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CPO8iICetdwCFUunUQodbfUD3Q
