I rest my case , glad your sorted Richard , it will prob be revamped again next week Betty used to work for gov depts n paperwork is never right until everyone has told them where they went wrong , let alone an ageing IT system that doesn’t always keep up or interlink with other depts
Tax has always been from the start of the month you pay for it in, I've 'lost' out previously with that.
Weeel being an old geet I’ve always paid for my road tax before it runs out ,ie not after it should have been paid but hay ho , if you buy a new vehicle to you then you loose out . I also thought when you reknew you can’t pay for it till after the fifth of the month prior . Fa too many loop holes fa crooks these days that’s all I say . Seems very strange to me why peeps want to tax their vehicle today Sunday just to get mot exempt and they don’t have to pay the back date tax coz it’s free if they was paying we would not be having this discussion
I used to only tax mine for 6 months, sometimes only getting 5 and a bit months use. I agree on it being odd to retax today, I'd also be suspicious if I worked for the DVLA that motors out of MOT suddenly got retaxed.
I had a funny idea you must be a part timer you can’t do that if your historical tax exempt tho cos the only option is 12 months and you can’t pay by direct debit either hence my joking re payment earlier
Used to be a part timer, have to be full time where I am now, plus being historic its the only option
I was referring to vehicle tax payment , I’ve been historic for many years but life was more interesting then
As a crossdresser, mine has always been tax exempt. i shall still continue to get an MOT for both the bug and the bus, i'm just gutted that they may not remind me now!
Oh don’t make it sound so easy!! Mine was a palaver and now the Log Book is back with it labelled as a Disabled vehicle! It may be down to post office you go to!
I’m not having an MOT done on mine - what’s the point ? You don’t need a certificate .. I’m opting to take mine to a local garage that do MOTs once a year to get it up on the ramps and give it the same treatment as an MOT with a written report on what they find ( or don’t) That way I get some reassurance that all is well as well as something on paper that provides some evidence that the vehicle is roadworthy should I need it . If I went down the MOT route to essentially provide the same as above and it fails on something like headlight alignment or horn not working - I don’t know - something simple that would render the vehicle off the road but not necessarily mean it’s not roadworthy
Just an update for import vehicles that are currently taxed .... My v5c didn't specify an exact manufacture date but I've the VW dating letter.... First step is to change taxation class which because it is already taxed you need to post to DVLA 1. Fill out V10 2. enclose dating evidence AND current MOT 3. update V5c to enter "historic" as class and sign and date 4. post to Taxation Team at DVLA Now the only question is why send the MOT (mine is valid till next year so not an issue) They return the v5c with new class and refund any monies owed Simon
Pretty much what I’ll be doing (or rather the mechanic) but I like to get everything sorted at once. Also, I’m too cautious not to... I’m suspicious about all this with insurance companies etc. I’m waay too cynical! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I suggested doing something like this previously and got shot down in flames as garages would want to charge more etc
Its not the same basic engine at all. its a different manufacturer for a start, never fitted as Alternative Original Equipment. - and this criteria makes it very clear what is modified or not.
