That site lets you check the date of registration from number plate. I have an M Reg van (1974 I think) and once had a letter from VW (now lost) saying it was built in May 1973 and yet the report is: VOLKSWAGEN MOTOR CARAVAN Check another vehicle ColourWhite Fuel typePetrol Date registered 1 July 1971 MOT expired on 14 May 2018 Don't get that registration date at all...[/QUOTE] I had similar to this when I registered mine for historic , dvla lost my originals and we all had to prove when they were built and registered even though they must have known this . The rules seem to have changed again now ?
Mine will be MOT’d no matter what but read what constitutes significantly modified and it is clear as mud.
Axles and running gear Alterations to the type and/or method of suspension or steering counts as a substantial change. So anyone who has coil overs, rack and pinion steering conversions or completely alternative front setups like Red9 will still need an MOT. Although you could argue that some of these are safety improvements and still be exempt...sheesh it's still not clear!
You should see what the SSVC are saying one thing is they are saying a irs conversion is ok even through you have to cut the chassis
I know some will disagree but it is clear as mud. A scooby is flat 4 so the same basic engine type. A scooby is arguably more efficient. Etc etc It’s all because A) they have sod all idea how to test old vehicles and B) they want to get us al off the road.
MOT exempt would mean that the MOT History may show the vehicle as MOT expired with a red warning, but there is new wording to mention the vehicle may be exempt and there is a link to the new Form V112, where type r is for vehicles more than 40 years old. Presumably the red warning will always be there if declared exempt, but not if the vehicle is MOT 'd and passes the new test. The red warning would not be a concern as the new wording covers it.
At the end of the day i think people are over thinking it I believe they don’t care about us,?we are a very small group the government want to get the 10-15 year old cars off the road so by getting us out of the way they can go after them. At the end of the day if you’re involved in a accident and the condition of the van played a part they will do you for unroadworthy not if you have a mot or not
I dont think we're overthinking just trying to interpret a poorly drafted document. The case is that insurers will try to wriggle out of paying for any reason so if you aren't sure whether you are substantially modified then I see that you have no option but to get an MOT.
So, I didn’t need to SORN it - I simply went through the re-taxing procedure and it all went though and I was able to tick the Mot box... so all seems to fine - I’ll check the vehicle checking app hing tomorrow to see if the mot status has change - but I’m happy now .. Sent from my ZX81 with 16k RAM Pack
it would appear from what you have written that their is a new v112 form now then ? If this is the case then why the fcuk arnt they putting a link to that on the gov mot exempt site one wonders . Ps I’m not arguing with you or anyone else I’m very concerned that we are not given Rules in black and white that don’t contradict what they say further down the page . As usual they don’t really know what they are doing and we if not careful will pay for their incompetence .
Lmao so your now taxed from the beginning of the month ie backdated to when the rules were different ,I didn’t think you could back date pmsl good old internet apps huh . And how do you do a direct debit for zilch
Yes it seems there is a new V112 Form, it was shown on the MOT History link when I looked up my van new details. Anyway I am happy, I am now taxed and MOT legally exempt, so out with the van tomorrow. and its cost me nothing.
My thought on modified vans are, just declare MOT exempt anyway. The rules for mods are so difficult to pin down and it would be a risk trying to get our vans MOT'd under the new much stricter testing. An MOT Fail would make the vehicle illegal to drive on the roads, whereas Exempt means driving legally. I reckon the MOT test would get even tougher in the future such that our old classics would never pass.
This my v11 reminder,it’s says tax class Historic just below it tells me I need a mot cert, But when you go on it tells me I don’t Took mins to re tax & declare it mot exempt
